The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 553

Nora's eyelid twitched violently as she stepped out of the elevator.

As a strictly logical person, she didn't usually believe in superstitions.

But considering she and Nathan had just survived a life-threatening incident, she couldn't help being cautious.

Finding his room, she reached out and knocked on the door.

"Come in."

Nathan's voice drifted from inside.

She pushed the door open and walked in. His wounds were already bandaged, and he was leaning against the headboard, holding his phone to his ear.

A smile instinctively broke across his face when he saw her. He was about to speak, but whoever was on the other end said something that made his brow furrow again.

He gestured for her to take a seat before saying into the phone, "Dig deeper. This isn't that simple."

The person likely agreed, as Nathan replied with, "Call me if anything comes up," and hung up.

Nora stood up and walked over to him, asking casually, "Who was that?"

He opened his arms, waiting for her.

Seeing that she merely leaned against the side of the bed instead of diving into his embrace, he smiled, grabbed her hand, and pulled her down to sit beside him. He wrapped an arm around her, resting his chin on her shoulder.

"Done with your statement?"

Noticing how he smoothly dodged her question, she shot him a glance.

Seeing nothing but open affection and joy in his eyes, devoid of any guilt, she looked away and hummed. "Mine is done. Someone will come by to take yours in a bit."

He raised an eyebrow. "Is that really necessary? Weren't we together?"

"You know the protocol."

She shot him a playful glare. "Do you think you get special privileges just because you're the Captain?"

He quickly raised his hands in surrender. "I never said that. I just meant they won't get much out of us."

That was true.

If either of them had known the car was tampered with, they never would have driven it.
