Nora’s nap was both satisfying and uncomfortable.

She hadn't been resting well, so getting a chance to catch up on sleep felt like it soothed her frayed nerves.

But her whole body ached, especially her neck.

It felt completely stiff.

Without even opening her eyes, Nora’s body automatically sat up. She reached a hand to her sore neck, hissing in pain.

So sore!

“Hurts?”

A man’s voice sounded beside her ear. Startled, Nora opened her eyes and found Nathan’s face just inches from hers.

“You—”

Nora was about to ask what he was doing in her house when her foot caught on a chair leg, and she stumbled, lurching to one side.

“Careful.”

Nathan reached out and easily steadied her.

Nora felt his hand grip her wrist. An intense heat radiated from his palm to her skin, and in an instant, her face flushed red.

“Thanks.”

Nora uncomfortably pulled her hand away from Nathan’s grasp.

She belatedly realized that although she and Nathan had only just met, something always seemed to happen whenever they were together.

Was she on a streak of bad luck too?

He didn't think she was doing it on purpose, did he?

“How long was I asleep?”

After asking, Nora’s gaze swept across the conference room, and it dawned on her what she had just done.

The realization hit her like a physical blow, leaving her utterly stunned.

“I… I fell asleep during the meeting?”

Nathan saw her eyes go wide like a kitten’s, and a flicker of a smile vanished from his eyes.

“The meeting is over.”
