The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 586

"Are you suggesting this wasn't an accident?"

Nora carefully replayed the incident in her mind.

Because the flowerpot had fallen so suddenly without hitting anyone, she hadn't paid it much thought.

But the second one dropped exactly where she had been standing right after she left, critically injuring someone. Calling it a mere coincidence felt like a massive stretch.

But how could the perpetrator guarantee she'd stay standing in that exact spot, waiting for the second hit?

"Whether it's an accident or not depends on the investigation."

"The video footage is too blurry. Nora, I need you to carefully reconstruct the exact trajectory of that falling planter."

Knowing that Nathan was a top-tier expert in this field, Nora closed her eyes, visualizing the moment, before giving him a highly detailed breakdown of the physics and angles.

Nathan mapped the falling trajectory in his mind and quickly sketched a rough 3D model on the tablet beside him.

"Like this?"

Nora reached over and adjusted a few minor details on the screen.

"Based on the velocity, it didn't fall from too high up."

Otherwise, she wouldn't have heard the whistling sound in time to dodge it.

Nathan made the adjustments and handed the tablet back.

Nora ran the mental calculations and nodded. "That looks accurate."

Nathan took the tablet back, his eyes locked onto the screen as his brilliant mind rapidly analyzed the data.

Nora knew she couldn't compete with his analytical speed, so she stayed perfectly quiet.

She quietly set up the overbed table, unpacked their lunch, and placed a fork right near his hand. "Eat while you think," she said softly.

Nathan murmured an agreement. They ate in companionable silence, Nathan utterly absorbed in his thoughts.

Out of nowhere, the image of that young man from the street flashed into Nora's mind.

Honestly, he hadn't looked like a teenager.

Seeing the uniformed officers from their precinct standing in the hallway, Nora offered a faint, polite smile.

"Come in."

The officers filed into the room. They greeted Nathan first, then turned to Nora. "Dr. Hayes, we're here to take your statement."

"Just a little while ago, a man threw objects from a sixth-floor window, resulting in a critical injury. The victim's family has pressed charges, and the case has been assigned to us."

"According to our preliminary findings, the victim was struck while sweeping up the debris from the first falling object. You and a young man were the ones nearly hit by that first object, is that correct?"

Nora nodded.

"The young man appears to have left the scene, and our team is currently tracking him down. For now, we just need you to walk us through exactly what happened."

Nora sighed internally.

She was just here to take care of her fiancé, and somehow a criminal investigation still found her.

Did she and Nathan really have that cursed detective aura, where bodies and crime scenes just spontaneously manifested wherever they went?
