"Alright," Nora nodded in agreement.
The officer followed standard protocol, asking why she was near the hospital entrance at that time.
Nora recounted everything chronologically.
When the topic shifted to the falling object, Nathan interjected from the bed, "An influencer livestreamed the entire incident. You should track her down for the raw footage."
"That's fantastic. The street cameras caught the aftermath, but the crowd was too dense to see anything clearly leading up to the impact. We had zero visual on the drop itself."
If they could secure alternate angles, they might actually have a real lead.
"Get on it," the lead officer instructed.
The cops immediately split into two teams to chase down the video.
Once Nora's official statement was logged, the officers switched off their body cameras and stood up. "Captain Peyton, Dr. Hayes, we'll keep you posted."
"Any updates, you'll be the first to know."
Nora nodded. "Thanks for your hard work."
"Just doing our jobs."
The officers walked toward the door before the lead cop suddenly stopped and turned back. "Hey, congratulations on the wedding. Given how this case is blowing up, we might not be able to make it to the ceremony, so we wanted to pass on our best wishes now."
Nora hadn't expected them to remember. She felt a sudden warmth in her chest.
"Thank you."
"If you find the time, please drop by for a drink at the reception."
"Will do. We've got to head out. Dr. Hayes, if you remember anything else, call us immediately."
"I will."
After the officers left, Nora shut the door and walked back to the bed.
"Do you think there's more to what happened today?"
Nathan looked at her closely.
When she had left earlier, she was relaxed. When she came back, she hadn't shown much emotional distress.
But the moment the police showed up to treat this as a criminal investigation, she had instantly slipped into work mode.
Nora frowned at Nathan. "What about him?"
Did Nathan also think the guy looked familiar?
"Didn't you notice the way he looked at you right before he walked away?"
Nora stared blankly. "?"
"I literally just saved his life. Looking at me is a pretty standard reaction, don't you think?"
Nathan's eyes narrowed, his voice dropping into a displeased growl. "I don't think it was a standard look."
Nora rolled her eyes at him. "You are unbelievable."
Was he really getting fiercely territorial over a random pedestrian she saved on the sidewalk?
Seeing that Nora clearly misunderstood his point, Nathan opened his mouth to clarify but ultimately decided against it.
No need to bring up unverified suspicions right now.
This falling object case was already weighing heavily on her. Adding more paranoia to the pile would only suffocate her with stress and offer no actual benefit.
