The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 74

"That's not Ms. Hayes's fault, is it?"

Hearing this, Aaron grew even more furious. "She has a boyfriend and she's still meeting up with other men. Isn't that two-timing?"

"Nora, have you no shame? After everything I've done for you?"

"Do you know what my friends say about you? They say you reek of death from being around corpses all day, and they're afraid to get too close to you!"

"Even under those circumstances, I stood by you without hesitation, and you betray me? You've got some nerve, Nora!"

Nora almost laughed out loud watching Aaron's dramatic performance.

Aaron hadn't expected this reaction from Nora, and a flicker of panic crossed his eyes.

But he quickly composed himself and continued his scolding in a low voice, "What are you laughing at? Does our relationship mean so little to you?"

"Aaron, don't you feel any guilt saying that?"

"You make yourself sound so noble, but what are you doing right now? Meeting a patient privately as a doctor, and coming to a hotel for dinner? You think you're so clean?"

"What's wrong with me being a medical examiner? A dirty mind sees dirt in everything. Since in your eyes, only doctors saving lives is a glorious profession, why don't you go online and say that?"

"Go ahead and tell the police department to abolish the role of medical examiner. Let's see how much power you really have, Aaron!"

"You—"

Aaron hadn't expected Nora to be so blunt and argue with him in public.

As more and more people started to look their way, Aaron felt his face flush with embarrassment and tried to save face. "Don't twist my words. I wasn't targeting the entire forensic profession."

"So you were targeting me?"

"Then let me ask you, I'm still your girlfriend, right?"

Aaron found her words grating.
