The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 73

Nora's face was impassive as she scanned the flustered Aaron and the smug-looking Mia.

Her gaze seemed to burn Aaron, and the guilt on his face intensified.

He hurried over to Nora and reached for her hand.

"Nora, don't misunderstand. I just ran into Ms. Hayes by chance."

Nora raised an eyebrow, thinking to herself that Aaron must take her for a fool.

"What kind of chance encounter leads you straight to a hotel?"

Detecting the sarcasm in her voice, a flash of displeasure crossed Aaron's eyes.

But knowing he was in the wrong today, Aaron spoke with great patience. "Ms. Hayes ran into me and said she wanted to thank me for treating her before, so she invited me to dinner."

Nora said, "Oh," and nodded. "You two must have a great rapport. You see so many patients every day, but she's the one you agree to have dinner with."

Being mocked by Nora in front of Mia, Aaron's patience ran out.

He looked at Nora with dissatisfaction, his tone sharp. "Why are you being so passive-aggressive?"

"I'm trying to explain things to you properly, so why do you have this attitude?"

"Where are your manners and upbringing?"

"Ms. Hayes has already let the last incident go. Do you have to be so relentless?"

Nora sneered. "She let it go? What, are you upset that I didn't press charges? I can always change my mind. I'll return the money and the house, and we can go back to court over this attempted murder case."

"You!"

Realizing Nora still held this over Mia, Aaron's face flushed red.

He wanted to speak up for Mia but was afraid of arousing Nora's suspicion.

Caught in the middle, his handsome, deceptive face clouded over.
