The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 80

“We have guests coming, so I need to go home early to prepare. I’ll come find you at the hospital another day.”

She gave Aaron a perfunctory kiss and hurried off with her bag.

Aaron felt like Mia was hiding something from him, but he didn't dare to ask too many questions.

In the end, he could only leave the hotel all alone.

After leaving room 888, Nora went to the private room Mr. Peyton had sent her.

Originally, Nora was supposed to meet the person first and then go see Leonard together. But since she had run into Leonard first, she hadn’t bothered looking for her date and had simply asked them to wait for her in the room.

Inside, a waiter was clearing the table. Seeing Nora, he asked politely, “Miss, can I help you with something?”

Nora identified herself, and the waiter immediately said, “Oh, so you’re Ms. Hayes. The guest who booked this room had an urgent matter come up. He left a note for you and left in a hurry.”

Nora frowned.

Although she was relieved she didn’t have to make awkward small talk with the person, she couldn’t help but feel he was a bit unreliable.

What was the point of saying you’d back someone up, only to not even show up?

Nora took the note from the waiter. Her gaze fell on the strong, forceful handwriting, and the irritation on her face faded.

Character aside, the handwriting was truly beautiful. It even felt a little familiar.

[Apologies, something urgent came up. I’ll make it up to you another time. —Peyton]

Nora didn’t know what urgent matter the man had. She figured he probably wasn't interested in the old man's matchmaking either and was just going through the motions because of his grandfather’s orders. So, he took the first excuse to leave without a second thought.

Thinking this, Nora felt much more relaxed.

Coincidentally, her reason for agreeing to Mr. Peyton's marriage proposal wasn’t to find a partner either. If the other person felt the same way, their married life would surely be very harmonious. They could live their own lives and just put on an act together when necessary.

Nora put the note away.
