The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 85

“Sorry.”

Nathan was the first to pull his hand back.

Only then did Nora realize she had been spacing out. She cleared her throat and looked down, her voice laced with embarrassment. “It’s fine.”

It was just an accident, but Nathan’s formal apology left Nora at a loss for words.

An awkward silence fell over the car.

The car started moving again, passed through the intersection, and soon arrived at the precinct.

“I’ll go on ahead.”

Nora unbuckled her seatbelt and reached for the door handle to get out.

The door wouldn’t budge.

“Huh?”

Nora was puzzled. Was the door broken?

“Wait for me.”

As soon as Nathan spoke, Nora realized he hadn’t unlocked the doors.

She pursed her lips but didn’t ask why he wanted her to wait.

She sat up straight again, her gaze fixed firmly ahead, not daring to glance to her left.

He backed the car into a parking spot, and Nora finally heard the blessed click of the doors unlocking.

She quickly pulled the door open, tossed out a quick “I’ll meet you at the elevator,” and made her escape.

Nathan watched her hasty retreat, his gaze falling to his right palm. A quick, fleeting smile touched his lips.

He got out of the car, pressed the lock button on the key fob, and stuffed it into his left pants pocket.

Nora took a moment to compose herself in the elevator. Just as she felt herself calming down, a glimpse of movement caught her eye.

It was Nathan, hands in his pockets, sauntering over.

Her heart immediately started to race again.

She quickly looked away, her finger holding down the “open door” button.

Nathan finally stepped into the elevator.

“Let’s go.”

Nora quickly pressed the button for their floor.

Turning sideways, she noticed that Nathan had both hands jammed tightly into his pockets, which was completely different from his usual habit. Nora was confused.
