Nora didn't argue and nodded. "Thank you."
Nathan just grunted in response.
They were still a ways from the textile factory, and various voices started crackling through the car's radio.
Normally, Nora would have found it noisy, but a faint, clean scent of laundry detergent filled the air, and a tall figure instantly came to mind.
She slowly closed her eyes and, surprisingly, drifted off to sleep.
When she woke up again, the car had stopped.
Nora sat up quickly and saw Nathan and a few others standing just outside the car, seemingly going over the final deployment plan.
She straightened her clothes, rubbed her face, and pushed the door open to get out.
"Dr. Hayes."
Nora nodded at the person who greeted her, her hands stuffed in her coat pockets.
The wind was a bit strong, tousling her hair.
"You're awake?"
Nathan saw Nora approach. His eyes swept over her face, and seeing that the strange emotion from before was gone, his tightly furrowed brow relaxed slightly.
"Yeah. How long was I out?"
"Not long," Nathan said.
"The entire factory is surrounded. We're about to go in."
Nora glanced at the sprawling factory before her, and her gaze suddenly fixed on a structure to its left. "What's that over there?"
Nathan looked at her with a new spark of respect.
"That was the old employee dormitory. It was later abandoned."
"Sounds like a good place to get rid of a body," Nora remarked.
Nathan nodded. "I've already sent people to check it out. We should find something."
They looked at each other, a heavy, charged silence stretched between them, thick with things they both knew but neither dared to say.
Nora was the first to look away, letting out a soft cough. "I hope we can catch the killer."
