Chapter 206 Hug from Golleagues-2

Chapter 206: A Hug from Colleagues.-2

“Perfect.”

I immediately look up.

“This is exactly what we needed,” he continues. “I don’t think there’s any reason to wait any longer.”

I feel a slight emptiness in my stomach.

“What do you mean?” I ask, though I already have an idea.

He smiles. “I’ll give the order today.”

My chest expands.

“We’re going to start construction.”

For a second… I don’t say anything. I can’t. It’s as if my mind needs to process it, absorb it, believe it.

“The site study is approved,” he continues. “The architects are ready, the engineers too. In a month…” He pauses, looking at both of us. “In a month we can be opening in Boston.”

My breath catches… A month, a month… I feel something inside me fill up. An emotion rises from my chest to my throat.

“We did it…” I murmur, almost without realizing it.

He stands up and extends his hand.

“Partner… we did really well.”

I take his hand and squeeze it.

“Thank you…” I say, feeling my voice fill with emotion. “Really.”

“See you in Boston in a couple of weeks,” he adds. “I want you to see the progress.”

I nod.

“We’ll be there.”

He says goodbye and leaves the room; the door closes. And the silence that remains…. is different. It’s not

empty, it’s… enormous.

I look at Alexander; he looks at me.

“I can’t believe it…” he says.

I let out a small laugh, still processing.

“Me neither…”

I take a step back, placing my hands on the table.

“This started so small…”

“And look at it now,” he interrupts.

I nod, feeling my eyes begin to moisten.

“Boston…”

Alexander moves a little closer.

“I always believed in you,” he says.

I look up. “What?”

“From the very beginning,” he continues. “I knew you could do it.”

I frown, confused.

“What are you talking about?”

He smiles slightly.

“The day I first saw you… I don’t remember what event it was, you were with your father, back when he was still alive.”

My mind tries to place that memory.

“I thought we met the day you approached me about working together…”

He shakes his head gently. “No.”

He moves a little closer. “I saw you before.”

My brow furrows.

“When?”

“At an event… it was an annual meeting, it was in your city,” he says.

My breath catches for a second.

“Someone pointed you out to me… told me about your project, what you were just starting. And when I saw you…” He pauses. “I knew you were going to be great.”

I look at him, silent.

“And I wasn’t wrong.”

His words… should feel like just a compliment. But there’s something more, something in his tone. Something in his gaze.

“Your father would be proud,” he adds.

I swallow.

“I thought… that was the day we met,” I say more quietly.

“No,” he replies. “I watched you long before that.

A slight shiver runs down my spine.

“Very closely.”

The silence between us shifts, becomes… heavy. But then he smiles, as if breaking the tension himself.

“We did it,” he says suddenly, with energy. “And this is just the-beginning. Boston, Clara! Did you imagine it? You started in your hometown, then New York, and now… now Boston.”

I nod, clinging to that initial excitement.

“Yes… this is going to be much bigger.”

“In a year…” he adds, “we’ll be in more cities. Maybe in other countries.”

I smile.

“I like the sound of that.”

We look at each other for a second… and then, almost impulsively, we lean in and hug. A hug of accomplishment, a hug between colleagues. That’s what it feels like, but… there’s something about the way he holds that moment a second longer than necessary. I don’t say anything, I just gently pull away. And at that precise moment… as I’m leaving the hug, the door opens.

The sound is clear, firm. We both turn, and then… then I saw him. He was there, standing and looking at us. And for some reason… my heart starts racing again. But this time… It’s not because of work.
