The atmosphere in the room was completely broken; there was no going back. I could feel it in the
way everyone avoided looking directly at Alexander for too long. In how the board members
reviewed the documents over and over, as if they were waiting to find something that contradicted everything. But they didn’t find it, because the pieces fit together. And that was the worst part…
I remained seated with my back straight, even though inside I felt exhausted. I had spent weeks
doubting myself. Questioning whether I was exaggerating. Whether I was seeing things that weren’t there. Now I understood why my intuition hadn’t left me alone.
Hale let out a long sigh before settling back into his chair.
“Well…” he said finally. “I think we all agree that this can’t be ignored.”
No one disagreed.
One of Alexander’s lawyers immediately spoke up.
“My client continues to deny any deliberate action against the company. And we want to put that
on record before this meeting concludes.”
“Noted,” Hale replied seriously.
The lawyer nodded.
“We also request full access to all the evidence presented today for independent review.”
My lawyer responded immediately: “It will be formally shared under legal protocol.”
Alexander remained silent. And that was starting to worry me more than if he had shouted.
Because Alexander wasn’t an impulsive man; he was dangerous when he was silent.
Hale clasped his hands on the table and looked at each person present before speaking.
“So, to clarify the preliminary terms of this meeting…” The entire room fell silent. “While the
corresponding investigation is underway, Mr. Alexander will be temporarily recused from operational and administrative decisions related to the company.”
I felt a slight movement in front of me; Alexander frowned slightly. But he didn’t interrupt.
Hale continued… “This includes direct involvement in active projects, internal approvals, strategic
access to sensitive operations, and any executive intervention related to expansion or financial
management.”

One of Alexander’s lawyers interjected: “We want to make it clear that this does not constitute
expulsion from the company.”
“Correct,” Hale replied. “He remains a partner in the company until a final resolution is reached.”
Alexander slowly placed both hands on the table. His fingers were stiff.
“And who will assume my responsibilities in the meantime?”
“They will be temporarily redistributed between executive management and board oversight,” Hale
replied.
Alexander gave a short, empty laugh.
“Convenient.”
I didn’t say anything. Because if I spoke now, we would probably end up arguing again in front of
everyone.
My lawyer then intervened: “Furthermore, we recommend an independent external audit to ensure
complete impartiality in the investigation.”
One of the executives immediately nodded.
“I agree.”
“Me too,” another added.
Hale took notes before continuing.
“We will hire an external firm specializing in corporate review and digital forensics. We need absolute transparency.”
The word “transparency” pierced my chest, because that was precisely what Alexander had broken. Trust, transparency. Everything.
Hale then turned to face Alexander, and his tone changed slightly. Harder, more personal.
“And should this unfortunate situation be corroborated… you will have to face the consequences of your actions.”
Alexander held Hale’s gaze for a few seconds. Then he replied with a calmness that no longer seemed natural.
“I did nothing to destroy this company.”
I felt anger rise in my chest again, because he was still defending everything as if he were a victim.
My fingers slowly closed on the table. Alexander barely turned his head toward me, and our eyes

met again.
God…
Hale finally closed the folder in front of him.

“Then this preliminary session is adjourned. The next meeting will be announced in advance… stay
tuned for the announcement.”
The sound of folders closing began to fill the room. Lawyers putting away documents, chairs being moved, heavy breathing. Everyone seemed exhausted, me included.
My lawyer leaned slightly toward me.
“You did well.”
I nodded slowly.
Alexander was still seated when several people began to stand up; no one approached him first. And that was unsettling to see, because just weeks before, Alexander had been one of the most admired men at that table. Now everyone seemed to carefully measure every word in front of him.
Mr. Beaumont was the first to leave.
“Let’s hope this can be properly clarified.”
Alexander nodded slightly; another executive shook his hand with obvious tension. Then another,
and another. Everything felt fake, forced.
I stood up slowly; my legs felt strange after sitting for so many hours under that pressure.
My assistant started gathering some documents; my lawyer was talking to Hale in the back. And
then I felt Alexander’s gaze on me again.
I slowly raised my eyes; he was still by his chair… motionless, watching me. He no longer seemed
like the confident man who had entered that meeting, but he didn’t seem defeated either. And
that’s what scared me. Because Alexander wasn’t someone who would fall easily. Or someone
who would accept defeat.
