Chapter 321-The Ga!!
Chapter 321: The Call.

I don’t know when it started, there’s no exact time, no clear moment I can point to and say: that’s when it happened. I only know that something inside me… shifted.
I’m home… Everything is in its place, the lights are on, the table is clean, the comfortable silence of a space that should feel like home. But it doesn’t… Not tonight.
I look at the clock, Clara should have arrived by now.
It’s not too late to be alarmed, not yet, but there’s something in my chest that doesn’t feel right. A strange pressure, subtle at first, but constant.
I run a hand over my chest, right where I feel that discomfort.
I take a deep breath, nothing. I try to ignore it.
I walk around the living room, pick up my phone, check for messages. Nothing new.
The last one is from her…
“Yes. I’m on my way.”
I frown, that was a while ago. Not too long, but long enough.
“She must be driving…” I murmur.
Yes. That makes sense.
She can’t answer while driving. She’s very careful.
I put the phone down on the table, trying to distract myself. I walk to the kitchen, open the refrigerator without really looking for anything, and close it again.
I go back to the living room and look at the clock again. Time seems to be moving slower than usual.
Or maybe it’s just me.
I pick up the phone again, dial her number, it rings once, twice… three times, and nothing.
I hang up before it goes to voicemail.
“She must be driving…” I repeat, this time with less conviction.
I exhale.
I pace back and forth, try to sit down, but I can’t.
I get up again; there’s something in the air. Something I can’t explain, something that won’t leave me alone.
I call her again; it rings, nothing. Now I let it ring longer, nothing.

Thang up… I run a hand over my face.
“Damn it…”
I stay still for a moment, listening to the silence of the house. And that’s when I feel it most strongly.
That weight in my chest, that discomfort that is no longer slight. It’s more pronounced, more present.
I clench my jaw.
“It’s nothing…” I tell myself.
But it doesn’t sound convincing, not this time.
I grab the car keys on impulse. I don’t know exactly what I’m going to do, but staying here… isn’t an option.
Just as I’m about to leave, the phone rings. I stop, look at the screen. Unknown number. My heart gives a sharp slap. I answer immediately.
“Hello?”
“Mr… Ethan?”
The voice is formal, cold, and professional. And in that instant… I know.
Something’s not right.
“Yes, this is he.”
There’s a brief silence on the other end.
Too long.
“We’re calling from the hospital…”
The world stops.
Literally… It stops.
“Hospital?” I repeat, confused.
“Your wife, Clara…”
I don’t need her to finish the sentence; my body reacts before my mind.
“What happened?”
My voice sounds harshei, more urgent.
“She was in a car accident. She was taken here a few minutes ago…”
I can’t hear everything, I can’t. The words blur together, becoming noise.
“Is she okay?” I interrupt.
Silence… That damned silence.

“She’s being treated right now.”
She doesn’t answer my question, and that’s worse
“I’m on my way.”
I don’t wait any longer; I hang up. The keys are already in my hand.
I leave the house without fully closing the door.
I don’t care, nothing matters. Only one thing, Clară.

The journey blurs; I don’t remember traffic lights, I don’t remember streets. I’m just driving faster than I should, faster than the speed limit. But I don’t care.
My hands grip the stee wheel tightly, my breathing ragged.

“Down that hallway, at the end.”
I don’t wait any longer, I run. I literally run.
The people around me disappear, I hear nothing, i see nothing. Just that hallway, that direction.
I arrive, there’s movement, doctors, nurses, beds… Noise.
“Clara…” I say, looking around. “Where’s Clara?”
A nurse approaches.
“Sir, please…”
“Where’s my wife?” I demand,
