It was the first time Scott had ever seen Riley act so recklessly. Startled, he quickly grabbed her arm. "Mrs. Landon, please don't shout! I'll take you to him, alright?"
Riley's voice was ice. "Lead the way."
Scott guided her toward the conference room, talking nervously as they walked. "Mrs. Landon, he just got back from Statenbury and has a mountain of decisions to make. The entire executive board is in that room. Can whatever this is wait until the meeting is over?"
Riley kept her lips pressed in a tight line, only walking faster.
Scott tried again. "If it's a real emergency, I can go in and pull him out for you."
Riley remained silent, power-walking straight for the boardroom doors.
Seeing that she had absolutely no intention of stopping, and looked entirely prepared to bust the doors down, Scott was on the verge of tears. He wanted to stop her but didn't dare lay a hand on the CEO's wife. "Mrs. Landon, if you barge in there, he won't let me hear the end of it."
Riley stopped.
Thinking she had reconsidered, Scott let out a massive sigh of relief. "Why don't you wait in his office? I'll go make you a cup of coffee."
"What does his anger toward you have to do with me?" Riley hadn't forgotten that Scott had covered for Pierce when he was throwing a party for Seraphina's son. He and Pierce were cut from the same cloth.
Before Scott could even process her words, Riley pushed the boardroom doors open.
Standing in the doorway, ignoring the dozens of eyes instantly glued to her, she stared directly at Pierce, who sat at the head of the table. "Did you cancel my placement at Statenbury First Medical Center?" she demanded coldly.
Pierce stood up, his face remarkably calm as he walked toward her. "Yes. Alora is still young. She needs her mother."
It really was him!
First her parents, then her best friend, and now her career!
The lengths he was willing to go to prevent this divorce were endless. Since when was he this utterly shameless?
