Riley froze for a second before realizing he was asking about the injury Pierce had caused when he forcefully kissed her the night before. Feeling a rush of embarrassment, she mumbled, "I bumped into something. Come inside, Sebastian. I just need to fry the greens, and then dinner will be ready. Please, make yourself comfortable."

Sebastian gave a slight nod. As he walked inside, his eyes swept over the legal documents scattered across the floor.

Riley handed the baby to Mrs. Gable and quickly gathered the papers before rushing into the kitchen to finish cooking.

Mrs. Gable felt like the air pressure in the living room had dropped significantly the moment Sebastian walked in. Alora was still a bit fussy from the scare, and knowing she'd only be in the way out here, Mrs. Gable retreated to the nursery with the baby.

After finishing the last dish, Riley walked out of the kitchen. She saw Sebastian standing on the balcony, taking a phone call. His tall, broad-shouldered frame looked immaculate; his charcoal dress shirt was tucked perfectly into his trousers, highlighting a lean waist and a physique that could put a runway model to shame.

Suddenly, he turned around.

Riley felt a brief flutter of panic, but quickly steadied herself. Keeping her expression calm, she gestured toward the dining table, signaling that dinner was ready.

He gave her a curt nod, ended his call, and walked over.

"Where did Mr. Finch go?" Riley asked, realizing she hadn't seen him.

Sebastian took a seat at the table. "He had to run an errand."

Riley didn't press further and quickly laid out the spread of food. "It's just some simple comfort food. I hope it suits your tastes, sir."

"It looks great."

"Would you care to eat first? I'll go grab Mrs. Gable."

Sebastian: "..."

'Sir'. 'Would you care'. In her text messages earlier, she had been just as stiff.

Riley ducked into the nursery and quickly came back out. Seeing that Sebastian hadn't touched his utensils—clearly waiting for them—she was genuinely struck by his impeccable manners. "Alora is still a bit fussy, so Mrs. Gable is going to stay with her. We can go ahead and eat."

"Alright." Sebastian picked up his fork and began to eat.

Riley fully expected Sebastian to interrogate her about the scandal surrounding Pierce, but minute after minute passed, and the man didn't say a word.
