She had no choice but to pretend everything was normal and take a few sips directly from the glass.
"More?" Sebastian asked.
Riley couldn't possibly let him keep feeding her like a child. "No, thank you."
Sebastian set the glass down. "Rest. Franklin went to pick up Alora and Mrs. Gable. He'll get them settled at The Grand Regency."
Riley felt incredibly overwhelmed by his kindness. "I'm so sorry for being such a burden."
"There is no need for such formalities between us. Get some sleep."
Riley still felt a bit lightheaded, so she settled back into the pillows. Then, she noticed Sebastian return to his chair and pick up his documents, calmly resuming his reading.
Riley: ...
Was he planning to just sit there and watch over her?
Wasn't that entirely inappropriate?
Then again, abandoning a sick woman alone in a hospital probably wasn't something a man of his refined upbringing would do, either.
As if sensing her gaze, he suddenly looked up.
Their eyes met unexpectedly.
Riley's heart skipped a treacherous beat.
"Are you feeling uncomfortable somewhere?"
"N-No." Riley immediately squeezed her eyes shut, internally cursing her suddenly tied tongue. Why was she so nervous? It wasn't like he was going to eat her.
Perhaps completely exhausted from the constant running around over the past few days, Riley quickly drifted off to sleep.
Hearing the soft, even rhythm of her breathing, Sebastian looked up. His profound gaze locked onto her peaceful, sleeping face.
