The Coldest Man in the Room Melted Only for Me novel Chapter 190

Watching his face drift closer and closer, every shred of her sanity screamed at her to shove him away, but her body felt completely paralyzed, bound by some invisible spell.

The rich, intoxicating scent of cedar enveloped her, and the raw heat of his breath grazed her skin. If she didn't stop him right now, he was going to kiss her!

The room was completely dead silent, save for the violent thundering of her heart harmonizing with the relentless crashing of the rain against the glass.

Riley swallowed hard, her throat painfully tight. "Sebastian," she gasped, her voice trembling.

The sound of her voice snapped him violently back to reality. The suffocating blend of agonizing restraint and savage desire peaked in his chest before he forced it all down, ruthlessly burying the predatory heat in his eyes.

He dropped the shopping bags and grabbed her by the waist with both hands, hoisting her firmly onto her feet. His Adam's apple bobbed heavily. When he spoke, his voice was a ragged, guttural rasp, practically dripping with suffocating restraint. "Stand still."

A split second later, he ripped his hands off her waist, picked up the bags, and shoved them at her. "Fever patches. Pre-mixed formula. Standard infant meds."

Reality crashed down on Riley. He had just been bending down to drop the bags so he could use both hands to help her stand. And she had actually thought... he was trying to kiss her.

Sebastian was the untouchable heir to an empire. He had a girlfriend, and he was her ex-husband's former best friend. She was absolutely out of her mind to even entertain such a psychotic delusion.

Staring at his flawlessly cold, composed face, Riley felt an overwhelming rush of humiliation for even letting the thought cross her mind. Her face burned. Snatching the bags from him, she spun around, completely refusing to look at him as she rushed to apply the fever patch to her daughter's forehead.

Sebastian dragged his thumb across his fingers, the phantom heat of her waist still seared into his skin. "Take care of Alora. Let me know if you need anything else."

"Okay," Riley mumbled, not daring to look back. She heard his heavy footsteps retreat, followed by the firm click of the door shutting.

She waited a few more seconds until the silence was absolute before finally turning around. Seeing the room empty, her violently strung nerves instantly snapped. She exhaled a massive, shuddering breath, her shoulders sagging in pure relief.

The second Sebastian entered his room, he walked straight into the shower and didn't emerge for half an hour.

The next morning.

Riley was jolted awake by a knock on the door. Her very first instinct was to grab the thermometer and scan Alora's forehead. 98.6°F. Perfectly normal. She had stayed up half the night waiting for the fever to break before finally passing out. Seeing that it hadn't returned, a massive wave of relief washed over her. She threw off the covers and went to answer the door.

The second she pulled it open and saw Sebastian, the memory of his massive hands clamped around her waist slammed into her brain. Heat rushed to her cheeks. "Sebastian."

"How's Alora?"

"Her fever broke."
