Sebastian signed a document without even looking up. "What is it?"
"Ms. Vance is hurt."
Sebastian's pen jerked to a halt. He looked up, his deep voice tinged with a sharp edge of panic. "What happened?"
Franklin immediately handed his phone over, displaying the news article about Riley.
Sebastian stared at the bold, glaring headline: #FirstMedJumper: Newly Transferred Medical Doctor Riley Vance in Coma After Heroic Rescue#. A flash of panic tore through his dark eyes as he shot up from his chair and strode rapidly toward the door.
Franklin hurried after him, warning, "This has blown up. The media is definitely camping out at the hospital waiting for updates. If you show up right now, it's not going to look good."
Sebastian froze in his tracks. He forced down the panic in his eyes, willing himself to stay rational.
Right now, Riley was just Pierce's ex-wife—his brother's ex-wife in name. If he rushed over the second she got hurt, the media would spin wild stories just for the clicks.
His fingers curled into tight fists at his sides, then slowly unspooled.
He turned around, walked back to his chair, and sat down. He gave Franklin his orders. "Send a fruit basket on my behalf. I want to know her exact condition and a detailed account of everything that happened."
"Understood." Franklin turned to leave. This was the first time he had ever seen his boss lose his composure.
Riley was Alora's mother, and his boss was Alora's uncle. Having someone send a gift basket was perfectly reasonable, but showing up in person would cross a line.
The entire psychiatry department was buzzing. Although Dr. Grosse had ordered everyone back to their stations, people were still finding excuses to cluster together and gossip.
