Sebastian listened to the dial tone, his dark eyes deepening.

Mrs. Gable came out of the kitchen carrying tea. She felt as if the air pressure around Sebastian had dropped significantly since he arrived. His lips were pressed into a tight, severe line. A wave of panic hit her, and she stood frozen, too intimidated to approach.

In the stroller, Alora was playing with Sebastian's fingers. The baby didn't understand adult moods and continued to babble happily.

Sebastian slipped his fingers free, gently brushed his thumb against Alora's chubby pink cheek, and suddenly stood up from the sofa, heading for the door.

Mrs. Gable jumped in shock, spilling some hot tea onto the back of her hand. Ignoring the burn, she hurried to place the teacup on the coffee table. When she looked toward the door again, Sebastian was already gone.

Franklin Finch was playing a game in the car. Seeing Sebastian get in with a solemn expression, he was surprised. Why was he back down so quickly?

He locked his phone screen and asked tentatively, "Leaving?"

"Yes."

Franklin started the car, burning with curiosity but too afraid to ask.

Just as the car pulled out of the residential complex, Sebastian's deep voice filled the cabin. "Book a flight to Riverport for tonight."

Franklin was utterly confused. "You don't have any itinerary in Riverport."
