Pierce grabbed Beatrice as she tried to lunge forward again, shouting coldly, "Enough! Aren't you embarrassed?"
Beatrice looked at Pierce, the son she had painstakingly raised, feeling both furious and wronged. Tears streamed down her face. "I am your mother! This bitch humiliated me, and you're taking her side?"
The onlookers murmured among themselves.
"That guy must be completely bewitched by that woman to not even care about his own mother."
"I actually don't think she's clinging to him. If she really wanted to, she wouldn't have made things so ugly with her ex-mother-in-law."
"Who knows? There are plenty of people out there who want to act like a saint while doing dirty deeds."
Hearing the whispers around him, Pierce's expression turned completely thunderous. His eyes burned with suppressed rage. "Are you trying to cause another stock market crash for the company?"
Beatrice's heart skipped a beat. She suddenly realized that if this blew up, it could indeed affect the company's shares. Even though she wanted to murder someone, she forced herself to hold back.
Pierce dragged Beatrice toward the restaurant exit.
As she walked, Beatrice kept turning back to glare at Riley. If looks could kill, Riley would have died a thousand times over.
That evening, Riley sat on the rug by the coffee table, organizing her research data from the day. Her phone buzzed on the table. It was Winona Spencer.
Riley put down her papers and answered. "Hey, Winona. What's up?"
"How did you know I was going to ask why you went back to Riverport?"
"How did you know I went back?"
