A cold sneer touched Arthur's lips. "Who do you think he is? The Landon family's hired thug?"
Beatrice gave a dry laugh. "That's not what I meant. Last time, Pierce refused to divorce her, and it only got resolved when Sebastian stepped in. He has the methods and the power to handle this kind of thing smoothly."
It wasn't that Arthur hadn't considered asking Sebastian for help. Years ago, when he adopted Sebastian, they had struck a secret deal. He allowed Sebastian to lie low and recover within the Landon family, in exchange for St. John Global maintaining a long-term partnership with Landon Enterprises once Sebastian took power.
Landon Enterprises' steady climb over the last two years was heavily due to Sebastian's backing.
In truth, Sebastian didn't owe the Landon family anything anymore. Last time, the situation had been critical. The cheating scandal was a raging inferno they couldn't put out, and the company's stock was plummeting for consecutive days, which was why he had asked Sebastian for help.
But every time they used Sebastian's goodwill, there was less of it left. Unless absolutely necessary, he didn't want to play that card.
Besides, loyalty only lasted as long as Sebastian chose to remember it. If he stopped caring, they had nothing.
"His capability is his own business. He has no obligation to clean up our family's messes. Running to him for every petty thing—do you think he's as idle as you are?"
Beatrice's face flushed hot and cold under Arthur's rebuke. Wasn't that just a roundabout way of calling her a useless freeloader?
Arthur held her in more and more contempt lately, not giving her a shred of face even in front of the servants. When it came down to it, it was all Pierce's fault for not protecting her.
Pierce was the head of the family now. If he defended his own mother, Arthur wouldn't dare treat her this way.
Pierce used to be so good to her. But ever since Riley married into the family, he had constantly fought her to protect that little tramp. Slowly, the bond between mother and son had withered.
Now Riley was stepping all over her, and he was still siding with her.
Beatrice was so furious she almost cracked her teeth. It was all that bitch's fault. If it weren't for her, she wouldn't have been neglected by her son, and her status in the family wouldn't have plummeted.
She absolutely would not let her off easily!
