The Coldest Man in the Room Melted Only for Me novel Chapter 298

The agonizing images played out like a broken reel, piecing themselves together in her mind and striking her heart like a physical blow.

"No! Help!"

Quinn was jolted awake by the screaming. She turned to see Riley pale as a ghost, her eyes squeezed shut in sheer terror, sweat pouring down her face. Quinn quickly reached out and patted her arm. "Riley."

Riley didn't respond. She just thrashed wildly, mumbling in her sleep, "No... don't touch me!"

"Riley! Riley, wake up!" Quinn grabbed her shoulders and shook her.

"No!" Riley shrieked, bolting upright in bed. Her eyes were wide and filled with raw terror. It took several heavy seconds for the fog to clear and reality to set back in.

Quinn looked at her with deep concern. "Did you have a nightmare?"

Riley nodded.

Quinn immediately went to the kitchen and brought back a glass of water. "Here, drink this. Take deep breaths."

Riley took a few sips, and her racing heart slowly began to settle. Seeing Quinn still staring at her with such worry, she managed a weak smile. "Don't worry. I'm okay."

"Should we go back to the hospital? The doctor said they wanted to keep you under observation for a few days to be safe."

Riley pulled Quinn back down to sit beside her. "I really am fine. I went through a huge shock today; it's totally normal to have a bad dream. It'll pass in a couple of days."

"I don't know anything about this stuff, so don't lie to me."

"I'm not lying. Let's go back to sleep."

Quinn lay back down and wrapped her arms tightly around Riley. "Don't be scared. I'll hold you."

Warmth filled Riley's chest. "Okay."

The next morning, Quinn woke up and immediately noticed how haggard Riley looked. "Did you have more nightmares?"
