At the mere thought of this possibility, Pierce felt as if a fire had been lit in his chest. The agonizing sting of being deceived and betrayed roared to life like a wildfire, entirely consuming his heart.
His eyes blazed with a murderous fury, desperate to grind whoever had done this into dust.
He had to find this bastard. Anyone who dared steal Pierce Landon's wife would pay with a living hell!
After taking some time to soothe Beatrice, Pierce walked out of the hospital room, found a quiet corner, and called Ethan Sutton.
Someone had crossed the line and touched Seraphina. Ethan definitely wouldn't let this slide.
Since the Landon family's network couldn't trace this ghost, what if he combined forces with the Sutton family?
The Suttons had deep connections in both the legitimate business world and the criminal underworld. He refused to believe there was anyone in Riverport they couldn't dig up.
Statenbury.
The next morning, Riley woke up. Opening her eyes to the unfamiliar surroundings, she felt a brief moment of disorientation. A couple of seconds later, she remembered she was at the sanitarium. As she moved to get up, she turned her head and froze—Sebastian was asleep, slumped against the edge of her bed.
And she was holding his hand in a death grip!
She felt as if she had been struck by lightning.
She instantly released his hand and scrambled into a sitting position.
Startled awake, Sebastian pushed himself up off the edge of the bed. His legs were entirely numb, and the hand Riley had been gripping all night had lost all sensation.
He looked at her, gently massaging his arm to restore blood flow. "You're awake?"
His deep voice carried the gravelly rasp of sleep, making it undeniably seductive.
Riley stared at him, her eyes wide with shock. "Why... why are you in my room?"
"You had a nightmare last night. I came in to check on you, and you grabbed onto me and wouldn't let go. I had no choice but to stay."
Flashes of last night's dream surfaced in Riley's mind. She definitely had a nightmare. In the dream, she had caught a whiff of a cold, woody cologne and desperately clung to it. Could it be...
She looked at Sebastian in horror. He always wore that exact scent. So the lifeline she was clinging to in her dream was actually him?
Riley's cheeks burned scarlet. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to."
Sebastian nodded calmly. "Yes, I know."
Riley was speechless.
