"You have every right to be upset," Lila offered, pouring fuel on the fire while pretending to comfort her. "But to be honest, I'm worried going to the director won't accomplish much. This is a private family matter, and it doesn't really have anything to do with her work."

"She has zero morals! You're telling me the head of the hospital won't discipline someone like that?"

Elaine took the bait instantly. "What happens if I make a scene?"

"If things blow up, public pressure will force Dr. Vance to pay you just to save face."

A greedy gleam flashed in Elaine's eyes. "How do I do that?"

"The outpatient lobby is packed right now. You could just go down there and tell everyone exactly how your daughter has treated you. The more people hear about it, the bigger the scandal gets. But..."
