“Yes, but once he learned you were at a dinner party, he just kept Alora company for a bit and left.”
Sebastian had mentioned last night that he would change her dressing every day. He must have gone over there just to do that.
Riley hung up the phone and returned to her seat. She realized she genuinely couldn't read Sebastian at all.
Spending the entire night alone in a room, holding hands, he had been completely unruffled. Even in the morning, when he had to hide from Madeline by getting under the covers with her—and even holding her—he had looked perfectly calm.
This was obviously not the behavior of a man who had feelings for her.
If a man liked a woman, there was no way he'd have zero reaction after such close physical contact.
But if he didn't like her, why was he being so considerate?
Changing her dressing, and even specifically texting her to remind her not to drink because of her injuries...
“Dr. Vance.”
Riley snapped back to reality and looked at Holly Xavier beside her. “What's wrong?”
“What are you thinking about so intently?”
“Nothing.”
“I've ordered the food. Take a look and see if it's okay.” Holly handed the ordering tablet to Riley.
Riley barely glanced at it before handing it to the server, asking them to bring the dishes. Then, she replied to Sebastian: [I know.]
After dinner, Dr. Grosse offered to take everyone out to a karaoke bar.
Since everyone was going, Riley didn't want to be a buzzkill by leaving halfway through, so she tagged along.
By the time they came out of the karaoke bar, it was past eleven.
It was almost midnight when Riley returned to The Grand Regency. The neighborhood was dead quiet, and most people had already turned off their lights to sleep.
Just as she reached the entrance of her building, a car's headlights suddenly flashed on behind her, casting bright beams in her direction.
She turned around. The lights were too bright, and she instinctively raised her hand to shield her eyes.
A second later, the headlights clicked off.
Riley finally noticed Sebastian's black Rolls-Royce parked in a nearby spot. The driver's side door opened, and Sebastian stepped out. In the quiet of the night, the tall, striking man walked toward her bathed in moonlight.
Sebastian stopped in front of her. “Why are you back so late?”
“I went to karaoke with my colleagues after dinner.”
Sebastian gave a slight nod. “Let's go.”
