“I missed my sweet girl,” Pierce said, holding Alora's soft little hand. He gestured toward the items on the nearby shelf. “I brought some things for Alora and put them there.”
Riley glanced over. The supplies Sebastian had sent a while ago had barely been used up, leaving only a little space, and now it was completely packed again.
Between Pierce and Sebastian, Alora's daily necessities were completely covered, leaving her, the actual mother, with nothing to contribute.
When Sebastian bought things, she had to express her gratitude, but with Pierce, it was different. He was Alora's father, and it was perfectly natural for a father to buy things for his daughter.
“Did you book a hotel?”
Pierce raised an eyebrow. “Are you afraid I'll stay over?”
Riley remained noncommittal. “You can come see Alora whenever you want, but it's really not appropriate for you to stay here.”
A dark shadow flickered across Pierce's eyes. She was so defensive—was she afraid the man she was secretly seeing would get angry? “I went to the hotel first before coming here. I have a major project to oversee, so I'll be staying in Statenbury for a while.”
Riley had zero interest in his work and didn't pry. “You mentioned before that you were looking into the kidnapping. Did you find anything?”
Pierce studied Riley, trying to catch any subtle change in her expression. He wanted to know if she already knew who had orchestrated the kidnapping, and if that was why her secret lover had taken revenge on Beatrice and Seraphina.
But her eyes were clear. Aside from curiosity, there was nothing else.
“Seraphina Sutton did it.”
Truth be told, when Riley had time to sit down and analyze it over the last two days, she remembered the thugs calling someone 'Miss.' Quinn Logan had mentioned Seraphina proposed to Pierce and got rejected. Riley had suspected Seraphina all along.
Turns out, she was right.
Watching Riley carefully, Pierce saw no denial or additional details from her, so he continued. “This couldn't be reported to the police, so it had to be handled privately. Those two men were castrated and their legs were broken. They're practically living corpses now.”
“What about Seraphina? She was the mastermind.”
Pierce probed cautiously. “You don't know what happened to Seraphina?”
Riley frowned. “How would I know?”
Was he overthinking it?
