Pierce came out of the room.

"Did you hear everything?"

Pierce nodded. "I heard it. Thanks, Sebastian."

Sebastian lit a cigarette, took a drag, and slowly exhaled a ring of pale smoke. "What are your plans now?"

Pierce wasn't quite sure what Sebastian was getting at. "What do you mean?"

"Don't you want to remarry her?"

Pierce was somewhat surprised. He hadn't expected Sebastian to care so much about his private affairs. Perhaps Sebastian still remembered the kindness the Landon family had shown him by taking him in. Otherwise, he wouldn't have agreed to look after Riley and her daughter so easily last time, nor would he have helped test Zachary today.

"Yeah, but Riley is pretty resistant to me right now." Pierce's mind flashed to what Riley had said to him last time. She had said that looking at him made her sick, and the memory made his chest feel tight. "I know she's still angry. I won't let go. I'll show her my sincerity and how much I've changed."

Sebastian lowered his gaze as he smoked, his eyes darkening. "You just betrayed her. She hasn't gotten over that hurdle yet. If you just blindly pester her, it will only backfire."

Pierce nodded in agreement. "You're right."

"Go back to Riverport. Come to Statenbury less often and give her some time. Wait until she figures things out before you pursue her again. It won't be too late. There's plenty of time."

Pierce knew this was the only way for now, but he still couldn't rest easy. Riley was so outstanding. What if another suitor like Zachary appeared? "Sebastian, I hope you can keep an eye on Riley and Alora from now on. If anyone like Zachary bothers her again, please remember to notify me."

Sebastian calmly lifted his gaze to look at Pierce. He smoked in silence and didn't say a word.

Pierce's tone was sincere. "Sebastian, I'm begging you."

"Don't worry. I will definitely take good care of the two of them."

"Thanks. If there's ever anything you need me for in the future, just say the word."

Outside the private room, by the ajar door, Zachary, Felix, and Lawrence listened to the conversation inside, all struggling to hold back their laughter.

The three of them walked toward the elevator together.

Zachary scoffed, "Asking Sebastian to look after them? Isn't that just throwing her straight into the wolf's den?"

Lawrence shook his head. "If Pierce ever finds out he personally pushed his wife right into Sebastian's arms, he'll probably lose his mind."

Felix chuckled. "Sebastian is truly ruthless. He's secretly making moves on the guy's ex-wife while simultaneously having Pierce express his undying gratitude."

Zachary clicked his tongue and shook his head, silently thanking his lucky stars that he was Sebastian's friend and not his rival. Otherwise, with Sebastian's methods, he wouldn't even know how he died.

At the hospital.

Riley was doing her ward rounds when a nurse walked in from the doorway. "Dr. Vance, someone named Winona Spencer is here to see you."

Why would Winona come to the hospital?
