The Day I Stopped Waiting Was the Day He Started Begging novel Chapter 9

In her head, Sloane violently cursed out the wretched Monroe family and that two-timing bastard York Yates.

Madeline remained silent. She took a bite of her cherry cake, finding the out-of-season fruit unbearably bitter.

Once she finished her dessert, Madeline grew bored and decided it was time to leave.

She had purposely avoided Felicity all night, managing to completely steer clear of her throughout the event.

However, just as she was about to head out, Madeline ran right into Felicity in the restroom.

Felicity was touching up her makeup while on the phone, her tone incredibly bright and flirtatious.

"...I don't care, I want you to pick me up personally! It's so far from The Yates Manor, you can't expect me to walk back."

The person on the other end said something.

Felicity blinked innocently. "...York, don't forget who waited on you hand and foot when you were injured. If you don't come, I'm telling Seraphina."

Felicity hung up the phone, turning around only to instantly lock eyes with Madeline.

She froze for a second before smiling brightly.

"Madeline, you're here too? How come I didn't see you earlier?"

"Just tagging along with a friend for the spectacle," Madeline replied dismissively. "I have somewhere to be, I'm leaving."

Felicity stepped in to block her path.

"Madeline, York is coming to pick me up in a bit. You should ride back with us."

"No need."

Madeline rejected the offer flatly.

But Felicity refused to move. "Madeline, I know you don't like me, but we all run in the same circles. Seraphina and York are caught in the middle, and it puts them in a terrible position. Why do you have to be like this...?"

"It's not that I don't like you. It's that I'm disgusted by you."

Madeline cut her off sharply. "York and I aren't divorced yet. Your constant overstepping is nauseating. But I suppose it doesn't matter to you—you've always been shameless."

Madeline looked down at her. "Honestly, the way you act is just pathetic. Putting on a different mask for everyone you talk to, acting out a script every single day—doesn't it get exhausting?"

With that, she turned and walked away.

Behind her, Felicity's face drained of color, her hands balling tightly into fists at her sides.
