The Day Silence Spoke novel Chapter 335

Mortimer didn't waste a second. He grabbed his keys and rushed Latisha to the car.

To make sure she wasn't late, he took the back roads, skillfully bypassing the morning rush hour.

He handed her a carton of milk from the cup holder. "I originally planned to take you out for a nice breakfast. I really had no idea you were working. If you hadn't told me, I would have sworn you were a student."

Latisha took the milk, gave a small nod of thanks, and took a quiet sip.

Mortimer continued, "We really do have a lot in common though. People are always telling me I look like a frat boy, but I actually turned twenty-five this year."

That surprised Latisha. She turned to look at him in the driver's seat. With his radiant energy and casual style, he didn't look twenty-five at all.

His youthful vibrance was so overwhelming that she genuinely believed he was a fresh-faced college kid.

As if reading her mind, Mortimer offered, "Aside from the sanctuary, I also volunteer at an orphanage. But I do have a real, nine-to-five job!"

"I work for a corporate pet supply distributor. We sell literally everything. So the next time you decide to adopt a dog, you come straight to me for the food. I'll hook you up with an employee discount."

A soft smile graced Latisha's lips. She pulled her notebook from her bag and quickly jotted something down.

*Mortimer Farley. 25 years old. Works in pet supplies. Gets a discount on dog food.*

Catching a glimpse of her handwriting at a red light, Mortimer burst out laughing. "You're actually writing that down? Afraid I'll back out on the deal?"

"Relax, I'd never scam you. It's all premium, top-shelf stuff."

Latisha smiled warmly but didn't sign anything, simply tucking the notebook safely away.

Mortimer talked the entire ride. He wasn't bothered in the slightest by her silence. He seemed naturally talkative, effortlessly carrying the conversation. Even without any verbal responses from her, he spoke with infectious enthusiasm.

Anticipating her question, Ziven answered before she could finish typing. "I'm honestly not sure when he'll be in, but you could always check Aqua Harmony Haven. Would you like me to have a driver take you there?"

Latisha instinctively wanted to say yes, but then she remembered the digital block. Combined with the harsh words he had thrown at her yesterday, returning to the house she had essentially been kicked out of felt humiliating.

"Mr. Lambert is definitely at home," Ziven urged gently. "He hasn't slept a wink in two days. He's absolutely crashed by now and definitely won't be coming to the office. If you wait here, you'll be waiting all day."

Latisha's eyes flickered. *He blocked me just this morning. There's no way he's sleeping.*

She quickly typed: *It's fine. I'll just wait for him here.*

Seeing her stubborn resolve, Ziven didn't push the issue. "Alright then. Let me know if you need anything; I have some matters to attend to."

Latisha gave a polite nod, signaling him to go ahead.
