[Music: Alibi By Pabllo Vittar & Yseult]
The club was buzzing, and it certainly wasn’t like the one Tori and I usually went to. This was a luxury club, and it was packed.
Downstairs, bodies moved to the beat, the ceiling was deep indigo and gold, and several other multiple colored lights flashed around. At the center was a marble bar that glowed from beneath, the shelves filled with liquor shining like gems.
I moved my body to the beat, dancing side by side with Tori and Athena. I could feel the beats thumping through my entire body, the floor beneath my heels vibrating.
I swayed my hips, my hand sliding down my curve, before flowing up into the air, my eyes glued to the ceiling, and I felt the liberation I needed, whipping my hair back and forth.
We danced, danced, danced until I was sweating and my throat was dry, and I needed something to quench it. We walked to the bar to order drinks, where the loud music was dulled.
"What was that thing you were doing with your hands?" Tori snorted, and I knew she was gunning for that the entire time.
"I should say the same for you."
We laughed.
Athena finished three shots at the same time.
"Whoa! Remember, we can’t take too much. We’re on our own here," I reminded, because we had to head back before Nico and Reed noticed we were gone.
I was more worried about getting them in trouble, and I can’t afford any mistakes.
Athena’s shoot was meant to take hours until midnight, and we should be back there before then.
"Don’t worry, a few shots like this won’t get me drunk. Drink!
"No, no... The last thing I wanna be is drunk," I declined quickly, drinking my coke.
"You don’t wanna see Cat drunk..." Tori stated before taking a shot, wincing from the burn.
"You should probably tune it down, too," I said, getting off the stool. "Need to use the restroom, don’t start the dance without me."
"Can’t promise, Athena got some moves there."
"You mean besides moving like a snail?" I teased.
Athena gasped, placing a hand on her chest, and I laughed, grabbing my purse.
"Wait! I’ll go with you!" Tori yelled because the music was coming up too loud.
"Stay with Athena, she’s taking shots faster than she’s blinking!" I yell back, disappearing in the sea of bodies.
I struggled to navigate my way through all the sweaty moving people.
Finally, I made it out, and I no longer had to squeeze through to walk. I adjusted the rim of my dress, letting my eyes sweep the place. I have counted more than twenty security guards.
This place was heavily guarded. Whoever owns this club must be super rich or just paranoid. You can’t go through a single place without seeing bulky men in black shades.
"Excuse me. Where’s the restroom?"
The security pointed to his left.
"Thanks!" I followed the path, and when I got there, a fucking line greeting me.
I spent an hour standing in these heels before I could get through. Maybe we should have come when it isn’t opening day. The crowd was something else.
Jenna: I know you probably didn’t find the files. There was no use browsing it in the first place. Ares King knows how to cover his tracks.
Jenna: Can we meet again? I will bring more findings to you. You may have acted like a King, but I know you’re not one of them. You don’t know anything about the underworld, which makes you different.
Jenna: Beware of Ares King.
That was the last text sent to me. Beware of him? I don’t get what the point is. I have, in fact, thought about everything she told me that day, but it doesn’t make any sense. Mafia? Really?
Me: How’s your private business going?
I hit send, waiting for his quick read, but it never came. I frowned, patient for the next few minutes, but nothing.
Me: Enjoy your business, Mr. King.
