Chapter 120: Bratty Tantrums

Ares used a finger to pull the paper close, tilting his head as he read the contents.

"Well, this is obviously my fault, but it’s yours too."

He peered at me through his lashes before raising an eyebrow.

"You were the one wandering a club filled with strippers," I grumbled, taking off my coat, placing it on the hanger, and walking to my table.

I spent the rest of the day doing everything with far too much noise. When Ares King demands absolute silence in his workplace, I gave him a racket—dropping papers with thuds, and typing on my laptop loudly until I was even irritated by the sound.

I walked back and forth with far too much energy, making sure my heels gave that desired sharp click-clack. I always tune it down, but now I went into a full-blown mood of nuisance.

When I returned to my table to resume typing, Ares came forward, and I stiffened. I thought he was gonna spend the whole day gawking at me.

I pretended as if I didn’t see him as he rested his hands on my table and leaned. I cleared my throat, typing with far too much speed.

He pushed the back of my laptop, the same action I did yesterday when I was trying to get under his nerves. But he wasn’t doing that; he was asserting his dominance, and it was very overpowering, like the air had stilled around me.

I forced my hands to my lap when he shut the laptop. I glared at him.

"What’s wrong, baby?"

"Nothing."

"The papers will be gone by the end of the day. The sources aren’t legit. It can be labeled as Photoshop."

"But you were with another woman," I mumbled under my breath before giving him one of my fakest. "Okay, honey."

"Stand."

My smile dropped.

"I’m busy."

A dangerous glint darkened his blues, and my heart raced.

"Repeating myself will earn you an added number of spanks. Trust me, baby, you don’t want that."

"That’s not fair," I said through clenched teeth.

"You’re not being fair either."

"I’m not?" I pushed to stand. "What were you doing at a goddamned stripper club, husband?"

"There..." he said, a smile curling those kissable lips. "The question I have been waiting all day for. What took you so long, baby?"

I growled, rounding my table to walk out, but he grabbed my arm, and I spun too quickly, slapping him right on the cheek.

I gasped, shocked by my action. I really didn’t mean to!

I covered my mouth with my hands, eyes shaky. Ares turned his head slowly to me, his thumb brushing the small blood stain there before licking his lips.

Oh, no, no, no!

In panic, I turned to bolt, grabbing the doorknob, but I had no idea how he got to me fast, pushing the door shut, and I froze where I was, feeling him behind me, his shadow shrouding me.

It felt like I was being sucked in by darkness, and a monster loomed. My heart thrashed heavily, and even breathing was difficult for me.

"Turn around."

I flinched before doing so without delay, pressing my back into the door with my gaze leveled.

"I didn’t mean to—"

He didn’t look angry. If anything... he looked amused.

What the—!
