[Music: You’re The One By Goddess No Holy]
ARES
Esme and I spent the day feeding cows, not exactly how I imagined my day would play out, but as long as it made her happy. Cows, chickens, whatever. Her giggles and broad grin were worth every moment.
I shoved the cigar between my lips, lighting the end with the Zippo. The downpour came with thunder and lightning. The barn was making a groaning noise as if it’d come apart, but the thing stood against all odds.
The weather had changed drastically in the last few hours. Rosevale had a pretty rough one. I’m stuck here. That was the first thought, knowing I can’t get into the house without a wood or twig slamming into me. The second was Walter... he hadn’t allowed me in... yet.
I had lit candles for light because the power had gone out, it was the only source here and made the entire place lit up like the middle ages.
Hearing a creak, I threw a look over my shoulder, and to my surprise, it was Catherine, dripping wet from head to toe as if she had fought her way to get here. Her gown, sticking to her body like a second skin, revealing every curve.
I took the cigar off my lips and tossed it out the window, taking what I could find as a blanket, but she came to me, maintaining a distance as if she couldn’t bear to be close.
I narrowed my eyes, discerning that something might be wrong.
Catherine’s lips parted slightly, but she was voiceless. I ate up the distance and draped the blanket on her frame.
"What were you thinking?" I murmured.
She clenched the blanket tightly, and my eyes caught a sparkle.
The ring... she’s wearing it.
"Your proposal sucks..." Her voice was raspy and soft. "If it ever was one."
"Do you want me to go down on one knee...?"
She scoffed, closing her eyes, her lashes wet and tangled. "Yes?"
I attempted to do that, but she stopped before I could.
"That was a joke!" she blurted, hands on my chest. "Y-You don’t need to do that."
I placed my hand beneath her chin and tilted, my jaw clenching. "Why did you walk through this downpour to get here? I won’t tolerate any carelessness to your health—"
"I love you." She smiled. "I never stopped loving you... Unloving you is impossible."
Love.
I cupped her face, stroking gently with my thumb.
Hearing her say that word to me became a desperate need, a salvation... an appetite.
"Say it again..."
"I love you."
"Again."

"Let me in..." she said softly, eyes begging.
