The Devil CEO's Contract Wife novel Chapter 293

Chapter 293: Close Encounter [1]

Vixen.

That was the first word that came to mind when my eyes connected with green orbs.

She was in another box just opposite ours, and the cage lay between us like a barrier.

I could barely detail or tell what she looked like, but I saw enough to assume. It was easy when you have been in the line of power for so long, you recognize someone like that.

And I knew without a doubt that it was her.

A black veil covered the lower half of her face, and judging by the way her eyes lit, she was smirking.

Anticipating the fight? Or just taunting me. I’ll settle for the latter because that was exactly what she had been doing for the last few months, and had caused an uproar in my city.

Her name was on everybody’s lips; they even feared her, too. Did she display strength? No... she used the simplest yet most dangerous method to grow in power. Information.

They talked about her. They spoke of how she began simply playing games like a woman who came to spend her daddy’s money.

They came to her like ants spilling whatever they had to get her on their side to use to their advantage.

It was a basic method here, but what none of them anticipated was that she was never a stranger to begin with.

The fight began, but I no longer paid attention. Our eyes became an unspoken battle as questions circled my mind.

The itchiness in my body became worse because it felt like I was gonna somehow teleport to that box and rip that fucking veil off. She’s toying with me, and it’s getting on my nerves.

Why not come to me as my associate? Why not present herself if she claims she’s on my side? It’s almost as if she’s challenging me... my authority, and the last person that did that was about to be buried and forgotten.

The cheers drowned, and the bawl became bloodied, but none of us paid attention. It was like I was trapped as I tried to unravel her.

But then my face turned stone cold, not wanting to dwell on eyes that weren’t hazel. There was only one woman who could allure me.

This felt like an insult to Catherine.

It annoyed me how easily enticed I was... Those green eyes were staring into my soul, and everything was seen.

I tried to stay locked on the event, but the burn on my face compelled me to veer my eyes back to the very thing I was trying to avoid.

It was almost as if she knew I was growing uneasy, even though I showed nothing of it. I remained stiff where I was and unblinking, my gaze turning colder and colder until it seemed like I was gonna freeze her right then.

So far, she hasn’t taken her eyes off me. She wasn’t affected by my impassivity. It takes a level of audacity to do that and not shrivel.

The winner was called out, and I was oblivious to who won or if I lost a bet and a shit ton of money.

Vixen broke our staring contest, waving her lace glove hand for someone who leaned down to her. She handed him a card, and I followed the movement briefly before settling them back to her.

Vixen tilted her head as if indirectly speaking to me. I looked away, concentrating on Carlo as he ranted, but his words were fading before they could reach me.

That same card.

I took it, awaiting that signature of hers, but to my surprise, she wrote this time, the words were typed, and it once again proved that she had anticipated this outcome.

You made an excellent choice picking the skinny one, Don King.

Fuck.

I rose to my feet, ignoring Carlo’s words. I was quick as I circled the corridor, my men moving fast. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
