CATHERINE
We’re staying here for the entire weekend?!
I have only been here for a few hours, but I already feel like taking the next car that drives by and get the hell outta here.
"You look tired," he said. "You need to get some rest."
Rest. I’m not sure that is what I need right now. After I told myself I would proceed with caution, I ended up on his lap. I really need to rewire my brain and start making use of it like a normal person.
His explanation gave me some atom of peace, and it was a reminder that the man who burst through the door actually had a gun pointed at us. I was so caught up in the fact that Ares had shot a man multiple times that I didn’t see that he did the needful to protect us.
But I can’t shake the feeling about Ares’ reaction to the whole thing. There was something I couldn’t quite place, and the more I think about it, the more I have many questions.
"What are you gonna tell the cops when they get here? I mean, they see the body and—"
"Catherine. Calm down."
I didn’t realize I was shaking until he said those words.
"I’ll handle it quietly so that there’s no panic."
"B-But the cops are gonna be involved, right?" I added, patiently waiting for his reply.
"Yes."
"I-If it comes to a statement, I’ll give it. I-I have never been questioned by them before, but I’ll do my best and explain why you had to shoot him and..."
The smile on Ares’ lips made me pause.
"Why are you smiling?" I whispered. "Ares, this is serious."
"You don’t need to worry about anything. I told you already I’d handle it. All you have to do for me is relax."
Relax. Sure, I can do that.
Ares took off his suit jacket and draped it on my shoulders to keep me warm.
"D-Do we really have to stay here?"
"Yes."
"Tori, she—"
"She will stay too. A security detail will be with her."
"Okay." I nodded. "I-I would need my glasses. These contacts are getting itchy."
"I’ll have them brought, as well as a change of clothes, in an hour."
"And Tori?"
"Your friend will be accounted for, too."
I can’t believe we were gonna stay here. I wish Tori could leave, but there wasn’t much of a choice right now.
Ares walked to the door, opened it, and waited for me. I gulped, striding out.
I looked over my shoulder to see three men I hadn’t seen before following us closely. They looked just like the men who stopped us at the gate, but less scary without their weapons on full display.
"Where’s Reed?"
"With your friend."
As much as I wanted Reed to be here right now, I’m more relieved that he’s with her. I knew she was gonna be fine no matter what.
That made me relax, just a little bit
I blinked, confused at first, before it dawned on me. I agreed to the sex contract. Fuck. It was the heat of the moment when I said that, and there should have been a wave of regret, but I’m mortified with myself that there was none.

What mood?
