Chapter 10
Marcus frowned the moment he saw them.
“Shit…” he muttered under his breath.
He immediately turned his face slightly and tried to walk past the dining area, hoping they wouldn’t notice him. The last thing he wanted right now was a scene, especially here.
But Travis saw him first.
Travis’s eyes flickered with calculation, and a faint smirk appeared on his lips. Instead of saying Marcus’s name, he raised his hand on purpose and spoke loudly so everyone nearby could hear.
“Waiter! Over here!” he called. “Bring the menu.”
Marcus kept walking as if he didn’t hear.
Travis’s smile widened. His voice became even louder.
“Hey, you! The waiter in the jacket. Come here.”
At the same moment, Jessica also noticed the familiar figure trying to slip away. Her brows tightened,
and she stared carefully.
Then her expression changed as she recognized him also.
“…Marcus?”
Her voice turned cold instantly.
“What the heck are you doing here?”
Hearing his name called, Marcus stopped. He knew there was no way to avoid them now.
He let out a quiet breath, then turned and walked toward their table, his face calm but his eyes indifferent.
Jessica looked him up and down the moment he got closer. Her gaze stopped at the uniform jacket on his body, and she scoffed.
“So this is where you have been,” she said. “What are you doing here? Working as a waiter?”
Marcus’s expression didn’t change.
“I am not a waiter,” he said flatly. “I came here to eat. I am just helping someone for a minute. If you want service, I will call another waiter.”
Travis immediately pretended to look shocked.
“Marcus?” he said loudly. “What are you talking about? You are clearly wearing a waiter’s uniform, and
you are saying you are not a waiter?”

He shook his head with fake sympathy.

“Are you afraid of losing face? Don’t worry, we won’t judge you. Times are hard. I know you don’t have money anymore since you proved stubborn and left Jessica, so it makes sense you had to take this kind of job.”
His voice lowered slightly, but it was still loud enough for nearby guests to hear. He intentionally did that. He wouldn’t stop also.
“But honestly… if people find out that Jessica’s fiancé is working here as a waiter, that would be really embarrassing for her. I feel bad about this.”
Jessica’s face darkened instantly.
She crossed her arms and looked at Marcus with open displeasure.
“No wonder you suddenly wanted to break up,” she said coldly. “So you found a job and think you don’t need to live off me anymore. And you even blocked me?”
Marcus stared at her for a second.
“Live off you? This is your problem” he repeated.
Jessica said, “What? You want to deny that, you live off us without you even providing anything!”.
His eyes became colder.
“It’s high time I would dispute this. Your whole family has been calling me a freeloader for years. Saying ” I eat your food, spend your money.”
He leaned slightly closer to the table.
“When did I do that, and what’s your evidence?”
Jessica didn’t hesitate and scoffed.
“You haven’t worked for the past few years,” she said stubbornly. “Isn’t that proof enough? Don’t twist things”
Marcus had been holding back his irritation whenever they claimed this, but when he heard them say again that they had fed him and taken care of him for years, he wanted to destroy the narrative.
He let out a cold laugh. “Then show it,” he said calmly. “Show the transfer records of all the money you gave me.”
Jessica frowned. “What?”
“You said I lived off you,” Marcus continued. “So show the proof. Bank transfers. Expenses. Anything.”
Jessica scoffed immediately, full of confidence.
“You didn’t even have a job. Of course I paid for everything. Do you think I can’t prove it?”

She pulled out her phone right away, her movements sharp and certain.
“Fine. I will show you right now.”
She opened her banking app and searched for Marcus’s name. Her finger moved quickly across the
screen.
Then her hand stopped. She scrolled again and again. Her brows slowly tightened.
The last transfer…she made to him was two years ago.
She stared at the record in disbelief.
It was a fifty-dollar transfer.
And she remembered it.
That day, Travis had wanted fried chicken from a famous shop nearly fifty kilometers away. She had been busy, so she sent Marcus the money and told him to go buy it and deliver it back.
That was the last time she had sent him anything. Two years and the money wasn’t even for him.
Jessica’s fingers stiffened around the phone.
Marcus watched her silently, and when he saw her expression change, a wave of sorrow passed through his eyes, but it quickly turned cold again.
“So?” he said quietly. “Where’s all the money you gave me?”
Jessica didn’t speak. Marcus nodded slightly, his voice low and sharp. “Then stop that stupid narrative already.”
He straightened his back.
“And I already told you. We broke up. Whatever I do now has nothing to do with you anymore.”
Jessica’s lips pressed tightly together. She had no answer, but the look in her eyes showed she still refused to accept it. She wanted to control Marcus.
“You must have been working here all along,” she said. “Now that you have a job, you think you can escape me. That’s why you refuse to delete the post. You think you don’t need me anymore.”
Marcus frowned slightly, not even understanding how she came to that conclusion.
Jessica continued, her tone cold and confident.
“But it doesn’t matter. I will make sure you lose this job. Once you have nothing again, you will come back obediently. And when that happens, you will delete the post yourself.”
Marcus was completely speechless. He stared at her as if he didn’t recognize the person in front of him.
“… Really, Jessica ?” he said quietly.
