chapter 11
Marcus didn’t react, he just folded his hand and smirked but Jessica’s disbelief exploded immediately.
“That’s impossible,” she said sharply. “What do you mean he’s not an employee? He’s wearing your uniform.”
She pointed straight at Marcus, her finger stiff with anger.
“Are you blind? Look at him. That jacket is from this restaurant. He’s clearly a waiter. Don’t try to cover for him just because he begged you.”
Her voice rose louder, drawing even more attention from nearby tables.
The manager frowned slightly and looked at Marcus again, this time with a trace of displeasure. He couldn’t deny that it wasn’t the hotel’s uniform but he knew every one of his staff and Marcus wasn’t one
of them.
“Sir,” he said coldly, “if you are not an employee here, why are you wearing our uniform?”.
“You shouldn’t be impersonating staff in this place. That’s not a joke. Customers could misunderstand. This is a high-end restaurant, not a street shop. I will arrest you for this”
Marcus didn’t look nervous. He just spoke calmly.
“I’m not impersonating anyone. I was helping someone for a moment. That’s all. He will be back now”
Travis let out a loud laugh.
“Helping someone?” he said mockingly. “Don’t bullshit us.”
He leaned back in his chair, looking Marcus up and down with open contempt.
“I understand this trick, you are only pretending to be a waiter so you can trick people into giving you tips?”
A few guests nearby glanced over after hearing that.
Travis smirked wider when he saw the attention.
“I wouldn’t even be surprised,” he continued loudly. “You had no job, no money, living off your wife for years, and suddenly you showed up in a luxury restaurant wearing a uniform. Either you work here, or you
are running some cheap scam.”
Jessica crossed her arms, she saw senses in what Travis was saying.
“Marcus. You don’t have to suffer yourself, because with just a few tips you are impersonating a waiter. Come back and let just leave all this behind us”
Marcus’s eyes darkened, but he didn’t answer.

The manager’s expression turned even colder as he looked at Marcus again.
“Sir, if that’s true you are here because of tips, this is a serious problem,” he said. “You need to explain yourself right now or I will arrest you.”
Before Marcus could speak, a voice came from behind.
“What’s going on here?”
Everyone turned.
Damien had just returned. When he saw the scene, his face froze for a second, then embarrassment flashed across it. Seeing the manager.
He walked over quickly. As the manager saw him and that he knew Marcus, he understood the situation.
“So you are the one that allow him to impersonate you, so he could get some tips!” he yelled at him.
“Sorry, sorry,” Damien said, raising his hand. “This is my fault. He isn’t here to scam. I was just pressed and went to toilet, he help me cover up, i asked for help”
He looked at the manager and added
“He’s not an employee or a scammer. I asked him to help me for a moment. He is here to have dinner with me. He is my guest.”
The manager blinked.
“Your… guest?”
Damien nodded.
“Yes. I invited him to dinner.”
For a moment, the table went silent.
Jessica’s eyes widened slightly after she realized she had been wrong.
Travis’s smirk froze, then slowly returned, but this time it looked forced. He was surprised how this turned out but he wouldn’t let it go.
“You invited him?” Jessica said, disbelief clear in her voice.
Damien smiled casually.
“Yes. Is there a problem with that?”
Travis suddenly chuckled again, but the sound was sharp and ugly. He laughed under his breath.
“You invited your buddy for dinner? In this place?”
He looked around the luxurious dining hall, then back at them.

“Do you even know where you are? The cheapest dish here costs thirty thousand dollars. Thirty thousand!!!.”
He let the number hang in the air on purpose.
Then he sneered.
“You expect me to believe two broke guys like you can afford that? What, are you planning to wash dishes in the kitchen to pay the bill? Both of you are in this scam together. Because no way you both can afford anything here”
A few people nearby couldn’t help glancing over again.
Jessica’s lips curled slightly, clearly enjoying the humiliation.
“Yes,” she said coldly. “This is ridiculous. Damien, right? You should know your place. This isn’t somewhere you bring people like him.”
“Jessica!” Marcus called out. Jessica kept becoming horrible.
Meanwhile, Damien looked straight at Travis, then at Jessica.
“You are right,” Damien said calmly. “This place is expensive.”
“But tonight is a special day.”
