Chapter 106

Meanwhile, the following day. Marcus got a call from Betty asking her to meet in nearby Resturant, for them to review some documents together.

Marcus reached there and met Betty at the door step.

“Thanks for coming, the focument is too much and u couldn’t do it alone”.

Marcus smiled and nodded, “No worries”.

Betty was about to lead Marcus toward a quiet corner of the restaurant when a surprised voice suddenly called out from behind them.

“Betty!”

The voice was loud enough to make several people near the entrance turn around. Betty stopped and looked back A moment later, recognition flashed across her face.

“Vera?”

A woman in her early thirties hurried over with a bright smile. The moment she reached Betty, she grabbed both

of her hands.

“Oh my God, it really is you. I was so worried when you said you weren’t coming. We all thought you had completely ditched us.”

Betty looked confused.

“Coming where?”

Before Vera could answer, her eyes landed on Marcus. She blinked twice before a teasing smile slowly spread across her face.

“Oh wow. Not only did you come, but you even brought your man along.”

Betty immediately shook her head.

“No, Vera, you have got it wrong. He is ”

“You don’t need to explain anything,” Vera interrupted with a grin. “You are old enough to get yourself another

man.”

“It has already been three years since Gerald passed away,” she said quietly before suddenly covering her mouth. ” Oh God. Betty, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that.”

For a moment neither woman spoke.

The smile on Betty’s face froze.

The change was so obvious that Vera instantly realized she had said something wrong.

The cheerful expression on her face disappeared.

Marcus could see the sadness that briefly appeared in Betty’s eyes.

Vera realized she said something wrong and said, “ohh, I’m sorry”

“It’s okay,” Betty finally replied with a small smile. “Don’t be sorry about it. it all in past.

She took a breath and tried again.

“Actually, I’m not here for-”

Before she could finish, several excited voices suddenly interrupted her.

“Oh my God! It’s really Betty!”

Three women practically rushed toward them from inside the restaurant. One of them immediately wrapped her. arms around Betty while another grabbed her shoulder.

“Our class president actually showed up.”

“We thought you abandoned us.”

“We were already talking about how boring the reunion would be without you.”

Betty laughed helplessly.

“I haven’t been your class president for three years.”

“That doesn’t matter,” one of them replied. “You’ll always be our class president.”

The others quickly agreed. Marcus watched the scene quietly. It became obvious very quickly that she had been incredibly popular back in school.

They genuinely seemed happy to see her.

Several former classmates walked over to shake her hand. Others asked how she had been doing. Then someone finally noticed Marcus.

A woman narrowed her eyes and looked between him and Betty.

“Wait a minute. who is he? your boyfriend?”

Immediately, everyone’s attention shifted.

The woman pointed at Marcus and asked, “Who exactly is this?”

A mischievous smile appeared on another woman’s face.

“Ohhh. Now I understand why she finally decided to come.”

The group instantly burst into laughter.

Betty sighed. “Can all of you stop making assumptions for one second?”

Unfortunately, nobody listened.

Several women began openly examining Marcus.

“He is so handsome.”

“He looked manly, wow… Betty caught a big one!”.

The group erupted into even louder laughter.

Before Betty could explain herself again, they suddenly began pushing both her and Marcus deeper into the

restaurant.

“Come on. Everyone is waiting.” Vera said. Betty didn’t want to go, but they pushed them.

Marcus and Betty exchanged helpless looks before allowing themselves to be dragged along.

Soon they arrived at a large private section of the restaurant.

The area was filled with former classmates. Some were chatting while others were eating and laughing. The atmosphere was lively and warm.

The moment Betty entered, the room became noticeably louder. People who had not seen her yet immediately stood up.

Marcus sat beside her and quietly observed everything. From the way everyone treated her, he could tell she had been someone important back then.

She leaned in to Marcus, “I am sorry. we can leave now”.

But marcus was unbothered, “It’s okay. let just play along”.

Betty nodded in gratitude.

For a while, the reunion continued peacefully.

Then a woman’s voice suddenly cut through the cheerful atmosphere.

“I really don’t understand what the big deal is.”

The room gradually became quiet.
