Chapter 137

Jessica gulped, continuing pleadingly. “Please, I just have to ask her some questions. It’s really important.”

The receptionist insisted firmly, “Without an appointment, I can’t let you go up. I’m sorry, but those are the rules.

Jessica sniffled, her eyes glistening with frustrated tears. She leaned forward desperately. “Okay, okay, what about this? Call her and say Jessica wants to see her. Marcus’s ex-wife.” She stated it with conviction, believing Natalie would want to see her if that connection was mentioned. Though the receptionist looked reluctant, seeing the woman’s genuine desperation, she had no choice but to pick up the phone and dial Ms. Natalie.

“Hello?” Natalie replied coolly. “What is it?”

The receptionist spoke carefully. “Someone wants to meet you. Ms. Jessica, Mr. Marcus’s ex-wife, as she told me to say.”

Natalie frowned on the other end, wondering what Jessica would want to see her for after all this time. “Ask her what she is here for.”

The receptionist turned to Jessica. “What is this regarding?”

Jessica leaned in closer to the desk. “Please, I want to ask about Mr. Smith. One of your board leaders.”

Hearing this, Natalie frowned deeply. No one bearing the name Mr. Smith was among their board leaders. In that instant, she connected the dots-this was the person who had been scamming Jessica.

Seeing how frantically Jessica had rushed here, Natalie believed she must have grown suspicious. A smirk curled on her lips as she decided not to help her at all. Jessica had the audacity to abuse her the day she met her in the bar, believing Mr. Smith was above her status. when she was there to capture him. She really wanted Jessica to learn her lesson hard.

“I am not interested in whatever she is saying,” Natalie said sharply. “If she spends even 2 minutes there in this company, you will be sacked.”

Hearing this, the receptionist popped her eyes wide open in shock. Natalie hung up immediately.

Jessica, sensing the shift, asked anxiously, “What did she say? I should come? Where is her office?”

The receptionist frowned deeply and said, “She didn’t want to see you. Leave right now!”

Jessica was surprised and shaken. “You told her it was Jessica, yes? Please, right now—”

“No, I am not leaving until someone gives me answers,” Jessica declared stubbornly.

“Ma. you have to leave right now, or else. I will have them throw you out!”.

“No, no, I am not leaving. I invested money to a member of the Langstone, and instead of helping you, you want to throw me out. this is crazy!”

The receptionist, now pale and nervous about her own job, quickly called for the guards. “The COO demanded her to be moved away this instant.”

In moments, two burly security guards appeared, grabbing Jessica by the arms and escorting her firmly toward the exit.

She struggled against their hold, stunned and humiliated. “No, let me meet her. Please…”

They threw her out, onto the road. She still wanted to keep arguing, but seeing she was now out, and people eyes were glued on her. she didn’t want to embrassed herself. She sniffled and gathered herself as she stormed into her

Meanwhile, in Alfred’s home, Julia sat inside with the others, her posture straight but her patience wearing thin.

Today was meant to be the day Mr. Alfred would sign the file officially making her the Permanent COO of the family business. The documents lay on the grand oak table, untouched. Instead of proceeding, the family elders kept her sitting there, murmuring excuses and saying she should wait for a moment. The air grew heavy with tension as minutes ticked by.

Julia finally broke the silence, her voice laced with irritation. “Grandfather, we have been here for twenty minutes without doing anything. Didn’t you want the Langstone deal again?”

Steve, one of her cousins, chimed in with a sharp glare. “Look at you. You haven’t even become the COO and you are already threatening us!”

“This isn’t a threat,” Julia shot back, her eyes narrowing. “We have our deal. Without it, I am not going to get the partnership with the Langstone family”.

The room fell into an uneasy hush. Just then, the door opened with a soft click. Everyone tensed up at the entrance.

In walked Victoria, her steps confident and poised, and beside her was a tall, sharply dressed man exuding an aura

of success.

Unbeknownst to Julia, they had been stalling precisely because Victoria had promised them she would bring someone who could help secure the Langstone deal and even offer a superior collaboration contract. With that kind of leverage, they wouldn’t need to appoint Julia as the permanent COO for the next three years-or perhaps

ever.

Mr. Alfred immediately spoke up, his voice warm with anticipation. “We have been waiting for you.”

Julia felt something was wrong the moment she saw the exchange. Victoria smiled apologetically. “I am sorry it’s the traffic.”

Then, turning to the room with pride, she gestured to the man. “Meet Eden, my boyfriend. He is the CEO of OptimaCorp, a building construction company. He is currently the number one in the industry. His net worth is over four hundred million dollars.”
