Chapter 152

“Yes, do whatever you want!” Mrs. Morgan snapped, standing her ground with her chin held high, arms crossed defiantly. “Travis is the one behind it, and nothing you say is going to change that. Go ahead and make your little calls. Empty threats don’t scare us.”

Natalie’s lips curved into a cold, knowing smile. Without another word, she stepped aside, pulling out her phone. The room fell into a tense silence as she made the calls-her voice low, authoritative, and laced with the unmistakable weight of Langstone influence. It took her barely three minutes.

When she returned, slipping the phone back into her bag, that same calm, triumphant smile played on

her face.

Travis’s heart was beating so fast he could hear it thundering in his ears. Sweat prickled at the back of

his neck.

Jessica shifted uncomfortably beside him, glancing between Natalie and Travis. She wasn’t sure what to believe anymore. Part of her still clung to the hope that Travis had really come through for her.

Ding!

Jessica’s phone vibrated sharply in her hand. She jumped, a flicker of real fear crossing her face as she unlocked it. Her eyes widened in horror as she stared at the screen.

“Wha… what! What is happening here right now?!” she cried, her voice cracking. “Why are they deducting

my money?!”

Mrs. Morgan’s eyes nearly popped out of her head. “What the heck?! They did what?! Removed your money?! How could she dare-” She snatched her own phone, frantically checking the banking app. The debit alert was there, bold and undeniable.

-20 million dollars.

Both women slowly lifted their gazes to Natalie and Marcus, faces pale with shock.

Jessica mumbled, voice trembling, “Don’t tell me… it’s you?”

Mrs. Morgan’s mouth opened and closed, words failing her for a moment.

Natalie smiled sweetly, tilting her head. “Yes. I told them to debit the money because you aren’t one of the actual beneficiaries who were scammed. And they did exactly that.” She gestured casually. “To show you-I’m the one, with Marcus, who stopped Smith from running away from the city.”

Instantly, Jessica’s eyes snapped to Travis. He was sweating bullets now, shifting from foot to foot, clearly under immense pressure and with nothing left to say.

“What are you looking at?!” Jessica barked at him, her voice rising. “Explain the situation right now! Admit it-you were the one behind it!”

Travis gulped, his face ashen. He mumbled weakly, “I… I thought the person that I called was the one

who caught Mr. Smith and sent back the money. I didn’t know Natalie already made her move…”

Natalie scoffed loudly. “Still lying.” She turned to Marcus, her expression softening. “Let’s go.”

Then she faced the group one last time, her voice icy. “And the money? You should forget about it.”

She slipped her hand into Marcus’s, their fingers intertwining naturally, and the two of them walked out together-leaving stunned silence in their wake.

That was the moment Jessica snapped back to her senses. Twenty million dollars. That was a huge chunk of her company’s funds-money she couldn’t afford to lose. It would cripple her operations again.

She whirled on Travis, fury blazing in her eyes. “What the fuck did you think you are doing?! Tell them the truth right now!”

Travis raised his hands defensively. “That is the truth! I swear it. I made the call. I did my part!”

Jessica’s face twisted with rage. “Don’t you witness what Natalie just did?! That alone is evidence of your lies! So shut up!”

She was shouting so fluidly and loudly now that a few curious guests and staff members started glancing toward their corner, murmuring among themselves. The attention made Travis’s cheeks burn with shame. He looked down, unable to meet anyone’s eyes.

Mrs. Morgan quickly stepped in, ever ready to defend him. “Look, Jessica, he might be telling the truth. He called someone and thought that person made the moves-only it turned out Natalie was faster than him. Travis did his best, remember? He told you about the location, so he clearly saw Smith trying to run away. He called you, the police, and that other man. He tried!”

Jessica scoffed, crossing her arms. “Who is this man that claimed to have helped? Hmm?”

Travis shifted uncomfortably. “One of my friends’ fathers.”

Jessica had learned far more over time than to keep believing Travis’s stories blindly. She sniffed. Same anonymous person every single time. The pattern was too obvious now. Travis lies.

Mrs. Morgan waved her hand impatiently. “This isn’t the time for talking. Your money-how will we

retrieve it?”

Travis jumped in quickly. “I really did call someone. But to get the money back, But now, i will just go meet Natalie and Marcus and tell them it wasn’t me. That I was wrong. Then they can send it back.”

Mrs. Morgan looked at him with open pity, placing a hand on Jessica’s shoulder. “Look, Jessica. He would do whatever for you. He’s even throwing away his dignity here.”

Jessica’s jaw tightened. The weight of losing twenty million dollars pressed down on her like a mountain “Look, just retrieve my money anyway.”
