The Disguised Billionaire She Rejected novel Chapter 151

chapter 151

“Well, if he isn’t apologizing and he’s refusing,” Natalie said, “then he must have his own reason for it.”

Jessica’s mouth fell open. “What? You just concluded that? Just like that, without even asking him properly?”

“What about you?” Marcus cut in, turning on her. “You concluded everything based on what Travis told you. You didn’t ask me a single question before you started accusing me.”

Before Jessica could respond, another voice joined them. Mrs. Hailey had arrived a few minutes earlier and had been standing close enough to hear the whole exchange. She stepped forward now, her expression tight with disapproval.

“You are horrible, Jessica,” Hailey said. “So horrible. And you’ve infected Marcus with that same nonsense, standing here defending him when all the evidence points straight at him.”

Natalie glanced around the room, her eyes catching on something near the bar. A small grin crept onto her face. “You know what,” she said, “why don’t we just check the CCTV footage? That would settle this

in two minutes.”

Travis felt his stomach drop. If they pulled that footage, everyone would see exactly who bumped into whom, and there would be nowhere left to hide. He forced a laugh and waved his hand like the whole idea was beneath him.

“Come on now,” he said, “why would we stress all the workers over something this small? If you can’t bring yourself to apologize, fine, just leave it. I’m not trying to make a whole production out of a broken bottle.” He folded his arms and tilted his chin up, playing the part of the reasonable one, the bigger man

above all the pettiness.

Natalie’s smirk only widened. “Why are you so against it, Travis? Scared of what it might show?”

“Exactly,” Jessica said, rounding on him too now. “Let’s check it. Go pull the footage. I don’t need your apology anymore anyway, not after everything.” She shook her head, then turned sharply toward Natalie, jabbing a finger in her direction. “And you. Don’t act like you’re innocent in all this either. I came to you for help, I begged you times without number, and you turned me away without a second thought. Did you think I’d just fall apart after that? That I wouldn’t bounce back?”

Her voice hardened. “You must have been shocked when you heard Smith got arrested and I got every

cent of my money back.”

She paused, letting the words settle, then added with a small, pointed smile, “All thanks to Travis.”

Natalie’s brow lifted slowly, her eyes sliding toward Travis with new interest. “All thanks to Travis,” she repeated, the words slow and deliberate, like she was turning them over in her mind, looking for what they might really mean.

Travis felt his throat go dry. He swallowed hard, his earlier confidence draining out of him. If Natalie asked even one more question about what exactly he’d done to help Jessica get her money back from

Smith, He would be doomed because Natalie was the one behind it.

Marcus, however, looked genuinely interested now. “What did Travis do? What are you talking about?”

Mrs. Morgan chimed in before Jessica could answer. “Yes, he made some calls, and that’s how Mr. Smith got arrested. Yes! He’s more useful than you’ll ever be, Marcus. That’s something you could never pull off.”

Marcus let out a short laugh, more surprised than offended. “Is that so.”

Natalie scoffed, arms crossing tighter over her chest. She wasn’t about to let that slide so easily. “So he’s the one who made the call? How sure are you about that, jessica? Did you see him do it, or is this just another thing you’re taking his word for?”

Mrs. Morgan bristled. “I don’t need to see it to know it. Travis isn’t the type to lie about something like

that.”

“Everyone’s the type,” Natalie muttered, “when it makes them look good.”

Jessica jumped back in, her tone sharpening. “You must be shocked, Natalie. I know it sounds unbelievable, but yeah, that’s exactly what he did. While you were busy turning your back on me, Travis was the one actually doing something.”

“Really, Travis can you stand on what you just said,” Natalie said, and let the words hang there, sharp and deliberate, before turning her attention back to Travis. “Well. I can tell you right now that he’s lying. Because I’m the one who had Smith arrested. Marcus was standing right beside me when it happened.”

Mrs. Morgan and Jessica frowned after hearing this. Travis gulped, unsure whether to double down on his story or come clean right there. He swallowed hard and said, “I called someone. That’s all I know. And that’s the person who ended up arresting Mr. Smith.”

Hailey let out a loud, mocking laugh. “Why are you trying so hard to disqualify Travis? What’s it to you?”

Natalie’s patience was thinning fast, and her voice dropped into something colder, sharper. “Let me tell you right now. If you keep refusing to admit that you weren’t the one behind Smith’s arrest, I swear, I will call the bank myself. And I will make sure every cent of that money that got sent to you is reversed. Tonight.”

Travis gulped, the color draining slightly from his face.
