chapter 17
Jordan’s hand moved fast. The knife vanished into his sleeve, then he turned at Julia so he could
change the narrative of what happened.
He straightened his shirt and forced a shaky smile.
“Julia-”
She cut him off sharply. “Professor Julia.”
“Prof… Professor Julia,” he stammered, pointing at Marcus. “He started it. He suddenly wanted to bully
me.”
Julia’s eyes shifted past him to the grown men groaning on the floor.
She folded her arms. “So you brought your bodyguards into the class premises to beat him up?”
Jordan swallowed. “No ma’am. I… I…”
“Enough,” she snapped, raising her hand. “If I didn’t come here, what would you have done? Call the army? Because you can?”
Jordan felt his chest tighten. He had always prayed and imagined speaking to her properly, only for him. to fall on her negative side when it happened.
Julia turned to Marcus. “Are you okay?”, checking his body.
“Yes ma’am,” Marcus replied.
“Good. Follow me to the office.”
She walked off without waiting. Marcus followed, but not before giving Jordan a small, infuriating smirk.
Jordan nearly lost his mind.
The hallway buzzed with whispers. No one understood why Professor Julia was treating this newcomer so differently.
“Wow… why is Professor Julia so soft to him”.
“He is handsome. I would give him that. Maybe our icy goddess isn’t that cold. She must be charmed!”.
“Fuck…” Jordan muttered. He turned to his men. “I can’t believe you all are useless. How did he manage to beat you!. Stand up Now!!”
They staggered to their feet.
“I want everything about that guy, his background and who the fuck he is, why is my julia drooling over her. I want it in just ten minutes!!.”
“Yes, young master!!!” they said and hurried away.

Jordan stood there, seething. While the whole class watched.
Inside the office, Julia closed the door and leaned against her desk.
“Hey, newcomer,” she said calmly. “This isn’t an arena where you show off your power. If someone offends you, you report to the school authority. Not throwing punches.”
Marcus bowed slightly. “Yes, Professor.”
She scoffed as her expression changed. “Professor? And you bowed?”
Marcus raised his head.
Julia suddenly laughed. “I’m just teasing you. Wow… Marcus. It’s really you. It’s been a long time.”
Marcus exhaled and smiled back. “Yeah, Julia. Long time.”
She shook her head. “I won’t lie. I’m very happy you taught that brat a lesson. I really appreciate it.”
Marcus smiled.
She studied his face. “I haven’t seen you in years”.
Marcus nodded
“Why are you back to school? Didn’t you drop out then?”
Marcus looked embarrassed. Back then in school, he was the top student and in fact, he always took the first position while Julia usually second.
Now, he is still a student and Julia is a successful professor and instructor. He regretted it.
“I was naïve and impulsive back then. I shouldn’t have done that, well I have come to my senses now. I decided to return and live the life I was meant to live.”
Pretending indifference, Julia asked, “Is Jessica… your wife… okay with this? She is supper big now”
Marcus fell silent. His voice lowered. “We broke up.”
Julia raised an eyebrow. She had seen the incident online the day before, and knew that something happened between them. She just wanted to confirm. Her heart raised faster as she heard this. So, Marcus was now single.
After a short pause, she nodded in understanding, and then said. “I don’t even know what to say. You seem to be happy back then when you want to marry her”.
Marcus just scoffed, he could sense Julia mocking him. if only she knew that they didn’t even get married legally. Jessica being his wife was just what public believe.
“Well, you need to be careful. Jordan’s family is powerful. They’re close to the Langston family. He won’t let this go easily.” Julia advised.

Marcus juat smiled but gave no answer. He simply thanked her for the concern, then, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, said, “Maybe we could have dinner sometime, if you’re free.”
