Marcus just stared at Travis with cold, unreadable eyes, saying nothing. The silence stretched awkwardly.

Jessica sighed in frustration. “You are always doing things with pride. Just for you to show some appreciation, and it’s that hard for you? I regret coming here to save you, Marcus.”

Marcus replied calmly, “Yeah, I didn’t ask you to come here for me.”

Mrs. Morgan exploded. “Look at this ungrateful rat! I told you, he is worse than you can know. He is wicked and selfish!”

Jessica looked at Marcus like he was a stranger, disappointment clear in her eyes. “I have always been wrong about you. You always try to act like you are more than this, always pretending to be rich. You even went all the way to steal just to show off.”

Marcus scoffed and stared directly at Jessica. “I didn’t steal the card.”

Travis sneered. “You are still denying it. I swear I will make sure you get arrested and sent to jail for this.”

Marcus walked straight up to Travis, his voice low and steady. “Well, I am waiting.” Without another word, he turned and walked away.

“Marcus! Marcus! Where are you going?” Jessica called after him, but he didn’t reply. Anger boiled inside her. She had thought that after the terrifying incident, she and Marcus would grow closer, maybe even bond through the shared danger. Instead, everything went more worst.

Mrs. Morgan shook her head in disgust. “Look, that bastard doesn’t deserve you. Just forget about him already. Travis is here for you if you are looking for a man.”

Travis beamed with satisfaction. He knew Mrs. Morgan was openly shipping him and Jessica. But Jessica didn’t say anything and simply walked away, her mind swirling with confusion and resentment.

Meanwhile, Marcus entered his car and drove off, his jaw clenched. He was going to make Travis regret all his lies in a very painful way. The fake hero act had gone on long enough.

Just then, he arrived back home. Natalie rushed to him immediately. “Are you okay??? How did things go?”

Marcus smiled faintly. “Fine.”

After some minutes, Marcus and Natalie arrived at the National Barracks where Wilson had been taken.

Commander Lee had already returned from out of the country as soon as he received Natalie’s urgent call. She had explained everything to him in detail beforehand.

As soon as Marcus and Natalie stepped out of the car outside the heavily guarded gate, Commander Lee arrived in his official vehicle. Spotting them, he rushed forward and immediately bowed deeply. “Sir, sorry for coming late. I’m also so sorry for everything that happened.”

Xander walked out to greet his commander but froze the moment he saw Marcus. His face drained of color. “You… you…”
