Chapter 57
Victoria was brewing with anger. She had made a joke of herself in front of everyone, so she angrily faced Elgin.
“So, you bought me this cheap riff-raff ring and want to use it to propose to me!” she shouted at him.
Elgin frowned, shocked, because Victoria wasn’t like this, and $50,000 wasn’t a joke of money.
“This is a $50,000 ring. It isn’t riff-raff. You would have appreciated it more if you didn’t compare it to the Queen’s ring!”
Victoria scoffed. “Look at what you’re saying. You just embarrassed me. I won’t fake this ring as an engagement one. I’m not wearing that fake shit.”
“It isn’t fake…”
“I don’t care. If you know you can’t spend something like the Queen’s ring, I don’t want it. You can leave!” she kept shouting.
This made Elgin so angry. “You don’t even appreciate my love for you! You’re comparing my gift and calling it useless. Fine. Let’s break up! Never let us meet again, greedy witch!”
He angrily left the room. As soon as he left, Victoria came to her senses. Truly, she had been comparing the Queen’s ring to the $50,000 one, and that was why she saw it as useless.
She had been with Elgin for five years and had just stupidly scattered everything. She felt like running after him, but she didn’t want to because of the embarrassment.
Meanwhile, Marcus smirked and faced Julia again. Then he brought out the ring and knelt. “Will you marry me?”
Julia smiled, her heart brightening. She had forgotten that this was all a show and fake. She screamed,” Yes, yes!”
Then he slid the ring onto her finger while she reciprocated. As they showed off the dazzling ring, Julia still wondered where Marcus had gotten the money for it.
Then Marcus faced Mr. Alfred. “Turns out I won the bet, so no one is stopping us from getting engaged!”
Victoria, who didn’t want to accept defeat, chimed in again. “You managed to get a two-million-dollar ring that even Elgin testified he wouldn’t spend on a ring, so where did you get the money?”
Just as Marcus was about to talk, Ms. Leah chimed in. “Yes, yes. He is a thief, I can swear it. I made some searches on him. He just broke up with his ex-fiancée and stole his ex-fiancée’s mother’s jewelry!”
“Oh, that’s him,” one of the cousins said.
“I thought his face looked familiar.”
“What if he stole the ring? This would be huge damage to our family if it goes public.” Another added.

“You just keep twisting words. First, you claimed Elgin bought the ring, now you’re saying he stole it. He
would never steal.”
Mr. Alfred looked at Marcus with narrowed eyes. “What if he did? I cannot let someone like this get associated with our family!”
Marcus frowned. “Are you changing your tone now after our bet?”
Julia turned to her grandfather. “I assure you he didn’t steal it. And I can stand responsible for it if it’s
otherwise.”
Mr. Alfred sighed deeply. “So you will take responsibility?”
She nodded. “Yes.”
“You better keep to your word.”
Ms. Leah stepped forward again. “Father, it seems you forget the Cornwall Construction Materials contract. We wanted to let Julia date someone who could help us get that contract. Now she is with this dirty rag and likely thief. What should we do?”
Mr. Alfred sighed at this. They had been chasing this contract for a month now. The family company was facing an internal crisis and badly needed the profit from it.
Julia had been their escape route.
A fifty-year-old man, Mr. Belly, a close friend to the owner of Cornwall, had made a promise. If Julia agreed to date him, he would help them secure the contract.
But Julia refused. Now Marcus had appeared and blocked the only path they had planned.
The room fell into thoughtful silence as the weight of the problem returned to everyone’s mind.
They were still thinking when Marcus spoke calmly.
“I will get the contract for you.”
“What!”
Everyone froze at how confidently he said it.
Victoria burst into laughter. “You think this is child’s play? We are talking about Cornwall. Over a hundred companies are lining up to get it. We are not even in their top forty considerations, and you think you can do it?”
Marcus didn’t flinch. “You should leave it to me.”
Mr. Alfred laughed loudly. “Who do you think you are? I don’t even know where you got that ring from, and you’re talking about influencing Cornwall? This isn’t child’s play. Only the top one percent of people
