Chapter 56
Victoria chose to believe that her boyfriend, Elgin, would never gift her a fifty-thousand-dollar ring while Julia got 2 million-dollar one.
“I’m sure this is a mistake. I swear. The store is the same and the address is the same. Making this kind
of mistake is common,” she claimed.
Everyone thought about it and nodded. Marcus scoffed and said, “It clearly states that the ring is for you, and you don’t want to accept it.”
“So, are you saying that you are the one who ordered the two-million-dollar one while Elgin delivered this piece of shit to me?” she shot back.
Ms. Leah chimed in, face Marcus and said, “Obviously, this is a mistake from the store. Fifty thousand dollars’ worth of ring isn’t small for someone like you. I can’t believe you really tried. So you should just drop someone else’s ring now and collect yours.”
Marcus scoffed and said, “Some moments ago, you didn’t believe I bought any ring at all. Now you are saying I bought the cheap ring?”
Then Mr. Alfred chimed in. “This is truly a mistake. Young man, you tried, so stop claiming another person’s things as yours. That ring isn’t yours, and this is your own ring.”
Marcus stepped forward. “This is the ring that I ordered, and I can bet anything on it.”
Mr. Alfred scoffed because he refused to believe that someone who couldn’t even name his father ordered a two-million-dollar ring while Elgin, a big heir, made the fifty-thousand-dollar one. It didn’t make
sense to him.
“You said you can bet on it. What about this? If we find that you aren’t the rightful owner of that ring, I will make sure you get arrested for robbery and you will spend at least three years in prison. I can make that happen.”
Hearing this, Julia chimed in. “Marcus, it’s truly a misunderstanding. I don’t care if one is more expensive than the other since you bought it from your heart and that’s what really matters. I will take the whatever you bought.”
Charles shook his head. “I appreciate that, but this is what I really bought for you and I won’t give it up.” He turned to Mr. Alfred. “As for your bet, I’m in.”
“What!” Victoria and the others exclaimed.
“You are really going to spend your life in jail because of pride?” Ms. Leah said with a sharp laugh.
Mr. Alfred’s face hardened. “I’m not joking about what I said. If we find out you are lying to us, I will really send you to jail. You better stop now.”
Marcus did not fret. “No, I won’t stop. I’m in the right. Bring it on.”

“Marcus…” Julia said softly, worry rising in her voice.

He raised a hand to calm her, then spoke again. “But if I’m telling the truth, you will allow me to marry Julia without any trouble or problem.”
Ms. Leah burst into mocking laughter. She clapped her hands once and said, “Listen to him. He is already planning a wedding with a ring that is not his. How shameless can you be?”
Victoria laughed even louder. She looked Marcus up and down with open contempt. “This is beyond embarrassing. You really think you can force your way into this family with lies?”
Mr. Alfred scoffed at the request. “I’m sure you are bluffing. You thought we would give in out of fear. No. I take your bet. If you really bought that ring, you will marry Julia.”
The room went silent.
Marcus nodded slowly. “So we have a deal.”
Mr. Alfred stared at him for a moment, then turned to Victoria. “Can you call Elgin again and confirm?”
Victoria lifted her chin. “Sure.”
She pulled out her phone and dialed his number with confidence, waiting for Elgin’s voice to settle the
matter once and for all.
She put the phone to her ear.
Before she could say a word, the door opened.
Tada!!!!!
Elgin entered.
“Surprise!!!”
Everyone turned and stared at Elgin who just walked in. He looked neat and confident in a tailored suit, his hair brushed back, a soft smile resting on his face.
He bowed slightly to Mr. Alfred. “Sorry for barging in, sir. I didn’t mean any disrespect. I just wanted to surprise my babe, Victoria.”
Victoria smiled brightly. “I have been calling you. You didn’t pick.”
Elgin chuckled. “I did that intentionally to surprise you. Have you seen my gift?”
Victoria rushed to him and hugged him. “I have seen it. Thank you so much. I really love it.”
Elgin grinned. “So you will marry me then?”
“Yes, yes,” Victoria said quickly.
“So where is the ring, so we can get engaged in front of everyone?”

Victoria’s expression changed at once. She turned to Marcus with an angry face. That is the issue here This stupid lowlife man took it and is claiming it was his. I want you to break his hand and collect it from him Teach him a lesson.”
Elgin faced Marcus. “Is that true? You took the ring I wanted to use to engage my beloved girlfriend?”
Marcus sighed, then brought out the ring and showed it to Elgin.
Elgin’s eyes widened as he looked at the shiny head queen’s ring. “Wow. This is so pretty.”
