To be completely honest.
Nora had absolutely zero mental bandwidth to deal with Yates right now.
Her brain was overflowing with Cassidy's explicit bombshell.
The group chat notifications were pinging frantically.
The ever-curious Jasmine was relentlessly interrogating Cassidy on how she arrived at that conclusion.
[Pushing down the tongue means he wants THAT?]
[Why?]
[Isn't it just him forcefully making you open your mouth?]
[When guys force girls to open their mouths in TV shows, they usually pry their jaws apart with their fingers.]
Cassidy: [Do TV shows broadcast oral sex?]
Jasmine: [Oh, right.]
Cassidy: [If a guy just wanted you to open your mouth, he'd grab your jaw. Grip it hard enough and you have no choice but to open.]
[Pressing down the tongue isn't about opening the mouth.]
[When you get a fever and go to the doctor, they use a wooden tongue depressor to check your tonsils, right? You've all experienced that. If you haven't, go grab a spoon and try it yourself.]
[Pressing the tongue doesn't just open the mouth; it opens the throat. Your mouth isn't deep enough, so you have to...]
*Smack.*
Nora slammed her phone face down on the desk.
The filthy, bizarre, and utterly useless knowledge had violently forced its way into her brain, obliterating all logic.
She couldn't shake it.
Cassidy's detailed breakdown was too graphic to look at.
Nora wanted to read it, but at the same time, she desperately wanted to bleach her eyes.
She dropped her forehead onto the desk, right next to her phone.
The doorbell kept ringing incessantly.
One of her studio assistants walked over to answer it.
The second the door cracked open, Yates barged straight toward her.
"Nora!"
The assistant rushed forward to stop him, forcing Nora to snap out of her mental breakdown.
"It's fine," Nora said, rubbing her forehead and offering a reassuring smile to her staff. "I know him. You can get back to work."
She turned her gaze to Yates. "Take a seat. I'll get you some water."
Truthfully, she just desperately needed a drink herself.
She had to cool down.
Yates, however, was incredibly moved.
Ever since the online scandal erupted, he had been treated like a plague rat. His former business bros turned their backs on him in public; the rich trust-fund kids he used to look down on openly mocked him; even his former employees and the security guards at his old office rolled their eyes at him.
When it rains, it pours.
Nora was the very first person in days to speak to him with a gentle tone.
She was even getting him a glass of water.
He knew he made the right choice coming here.
His company was gone, his parents had abandoned him, Jasmine refused to see him, and Nathan was guarding the door. Because he broke Nathan's rib, even the Smith parents—who had trusted and thanked him mere days ago—had completely cut ties with him.
And he had just dumped millions of dollars into their failing projects!
He lost the girl, lost the money, and was drowning in lawsuits. Out of options, Yates sought out Nora.
She was sweet-tempered, endlessly kind, and best friends with Jasmine.
