The last time David reached out to meet with her, it was probably to talk about Bella.

He definitely knew a lot of the inside details.

However, Maloney had blocked David from passing any information to her.

Regardless of whether David had actually done anything shady, or if Maloney was genuinely planning to get rid of him, Nora had a sneaking suspicion that the two of them might have struck some kind of deal.

Rushing to find David would only expose her own hand.

After turning it over in her mind, Nora realized the only people she could completely trust right now were her girlfriends.

Nora met up with Cassidy and Jasmine for dinner.

She brought them up to speed on Bella's situation.

Cassidy looked stunned. "Who's the father?"

"I don't know for sure," Nora shook her head, then asked, "Do you have any way to run a background check on her for me?"

"What about your husband?" Cassidy was confused. "He didn't help you with this?"

"It's not that he didn't help, it's that he never even told me she got released. He actively stopped everyone else from telling me too. I had to dig it up myself."

"He was probably afraid you'd worry?" Cassidy suggested.

"Maybe." Nora lowered her voice. "You guys absolutely cannot let him know that I know she's out."

Jasmine was thoroughly lost. "Why not?"

Nora explained with total seriousness. "He did this before. Whenever something major happens, he deliberately hides it from me and even gets people to lie to me. This time, I'm handling the investigation myself."

Jasmine looked even more confused. "Huh? But why?"

"Because I hate being kept in the dark."

"Why don't you just ask him straight up?"

"If I ask him straight up, he'll only tell me exactly what he wants me to know."

Jasmine's face scrunched up into a knot of confusion.

Cassidy held up a hand to stop Jasmine from asking any more questions. "Just hold on a second."

She turned to Nora. "I get what you mean. I'll look into it for you."

Since Cassidy was on board, Jasmine pushed past her confusion and nodded. "Okay, so right now, we need to deal with Bella without Mr. Jameson's help."

"We need to guard against Maloney while figuring out how to handle Bella," Nora corrected.

Jasmine sighed. "That's nightmare difficulty."
