The Divorce That Brought Us Back novel Chapter 288

Before Maloney arrived.

Nora and Cassidy had been standing by the planter, debating where to get their late-night food.

When Maloney pulled up, she had spotted him from far away.

Not because she had particularly sharp eyesight.

But because they were standing right outside the airport arrivals level.

Cars could drive right up.

When that sleek silver Koenigsegg roared through the night, absolutely everyone had turned to stare.

Maloney stepped out and marched straight toward Nora.

Cassidy had been ready to grab some popcorn and enjoy the show.

Until.

Maloney sank so low to the ground the moment he reached them.

Thankfully, Cassidy was surprisingly agile for a pregnant woman; she dodged instantly, terrified of being caught in the crossfire of his dramatic gesture.

She quickly retreated to where Jasmine and Felix were standing.

From a safe distance, she watched as Maloney seamlessly locked Nora into a desperate embrace.

The size difference between the two was striking.

Actually, Cassidy had noticed it two years ago at their wedding. Nora had been wearing a magnificent, heavy gown and four-inch heels—her feet were incredibly small, and anyone with small feet knows that the higher the heel, the smaller the area of support, making the pressure almost unbearable.

Plus, Nora rarely wore heels. She wasn't used to them. After walking around the venue in those four-inch stilettos, her feet were throbbing and swollen. Her steps grew shaky, and as she navigated the stairs, she wobbled dangerously, looking like she might tumble at any second.

Noticing her struggle, Maloney had simply wrapped one arm around her waist and carried her down the steps.

As a bridesmaid, Cassidy had witnessed the entire thing.

Even back then, she had marveled at how different they were in stature.

Maloney had scooped Nora up as effortlessly as if she weighed absolutely nothing.

The massive, layered weight of her wedding dress hadn't hindered him in the slightest.

It only made Nora look that much more petite.

And back then, Nora had still carried a quiet, timid aura.

Constantly checking Maloney's face to gauge his mood.

When they stood side by side, there was an incredibly obvious dynamic of power and vulnerability.

Now.

The size difference was still there.

Creating distance from the romance.

With one more step, she bumped right into Seraphina.

Keep walking.

Creating distance from the idiots.

After taking two more steps, she paused and walked back.

Cassidy stared at Seraphina's face for a few seconds.

Noticing that her expression was wonderfully complex.

Her brow was furrowed in obvious displeasure; her teeth dug into her bottom lip, trying to mask her frustration; and her eyes completely betrayed her disgust.

Following Seraphina's gaze.

She was staring directly at Nora and Maloney.

Those two fools were up to their usual antics.

Nora had unwrapped her scarf and draped it securely around Maloney's neck. As she leaned in to loop it around a second time, Maloney suddenly surged forward and pressed a kiss against her exposed neck.

Nora hunched her shoulders, trying to shrink away, only for Maloney to grip the back of her neck and steal another kiss.

Instantly, it was as if someone had knocked the strength right out of Nora's knees; she completely melted forward, collapsing perfectly into Maloney's waiting arms.
