Nora Dodge was a stubborn one.

Maloney Jameson had casually criticized her, and she immediately shut down.

"I'm not asking anymore."

"Just ask."

"No."

"..."

Maloney held her tighter. "Fine, no more questions. We can talk about it tomorrow."

Nora muttered a few complaints before drifting off into a deep sleep against his chest.

When she woke up, Maloney was gone.

She reached out. His side of the bed was cold.

He had been up for a while.

Nora lingered in bed before slowly getting up. She walked into the bathroom and found that several of her usual toiletries had been stocked on the counter.

She showered, washed her hair, and changed into the fresh clothes left at the foot of the bed.

Stepping out of the private suite and back into the main office, Nora didn't see Maloney.

Instead, Maisie was sitting at the guest table, typing away on her laptop.

Nora had met her before.

"Mrs. Jameson!" Maisie snapped her laptop shut and greeted her with a bright, respectful smile. "Do you need anything?"

Nora smiled warmly. "I'm fine. Go ahead with your work."

"What would you like for breakfast?" Maisie asked. "Mr. Jameson instructed me to make sure you're well-fed before showing you the files."

Nora thought for a moment. "The cafeteria sent up two portions of late-night snacks yesterday. Do you know where they went? I heard the food here is amazing. I can just heat those up for breakfast."

Maisie's expression stiffened. Her lips twitched as she weakly replied, "Um... those... they've already been eaten."

Nora blinked. "Oh?"

"Well, you see, Mrs. Jameson," Maisie earnestly explained. "The cafeteria food really is incredible, especially the chef's signature crispy grilled sausages. When you bite into them, there's this perfect crunch, and they're so juicy. But the signature ones are limited every day. If you don't grab them in time, you're stuck with the frozen ones. They prepared the signature ones for you last night. A lot of us had never even tried them, and since they were left out overnight, we figured you definitely didn't want them anymore... so... yeah... they're gone."
