"I can head back whenever I want."
"Then we'll head back as soon as you learn to swim."
"..."
He was relentless.
Far away from the chaotic drama of the capital, life settled into a clear, simplistic rhythm.
Nora eventually learned how to swim.
Not out of any newfound passion for the sport, but because every time Maloney took her down to the hotel pool, it was packed with other guests and rowdy kids on summer vacation.
Bickering with Maloney while clinging to the edge of the pool, only to have a group of toddlers swim over and stare at them, was a level of embarrassment she refused to endure.
It was better to just learn.
Maloney was a man of his word. The very afternoon Nora managed to swim a full lap completely unassisted, they packed their bags and flew back to the capital.
They arrived just in time for Maddie's one-month milestone celebration.
Even though Maddie was officially a month old, Cassidy was still recovering from childbirth.
Instead of throwing a massive blowout at a luxury banquet hall, they hosted a private sip-and-see party at Cassidy's villa, inviting only close friends and family to offer their blessings.
Nora brought Maloney along as her plus-one.
Inside the bustling villa.
Parker was bouncing around, holding Maddie and enthusiastically greeting the guests.
Spotting them, Parker flashed a brilliant smile. "Nora, so glad you made it. Hey Maloney, good to see you man."
"Come on in, grab a seat."
"Are you guys wearing matching outfits today? You look great together."
The capital was sweltering. Nora was wearing a light blue summer dress, and Maloney had on a white tee with navy accents. To Parker, that constituted a couples' outfit.
His mouth was dripping with honey today.
Nora offered a polite smile. "I'm going to head upstairs to check on Cass."
Parker nodded graciously. "Go ahead."
He was playing the perfect master of the house.
Ever since Cassidy reached a state of inner peace, she completely stopped fighting with him.
If Parker wanted to move into her villa, fine.
If he wanted to snatch the maternity nurse's jobs to show off how well he cared for Maddie, have at it.
