Human beings were contradictory and complex creatures.
Cassidy had provoked Parker time and time again, demanding a divorce over and over! Fine! Then they would divorce!
But once they divorced, she could forget about taking any shares, and she certainly wouldn't take Maddie!
Parker stormed into The Quincy Corporation, furiously demanding to verify the terms of the divorce agreement with Bridget.
To his shock, Bridget replied, "She never planned on taking anything to begin with."
Parker froze. "Didn't you give her shares?"
"That was her reward for breaking into the international market," Bridget said, watching him calmly. "It has nothing to do with you."
"She doesn't want Maddie?"
"No."
Hearing this made Parker's chest tighten.
They had been married for two years, and she was walking away with nothing? Did she think he was some kind of cheapskate?
And she didn't even want their baby.
Maddie was so adorable. How could she not want her?!
She might not be able to take her, but she wasn't allowed to just not want her!
Feeling utterly suffocated, Parker went out to drink with his buddies.
Staring at the neat rows of liquor bottles on the carved mahogany table, Parker suddenly thought of Seraphina.
Driven by a morbid curiosity, he asked, "What kind of woman do you guys think Seraphina is?"
"A total knockout, obviously!"
"Gorgeous, successful, a smooth talker—she's my dream girl!"
"Haha, Parker, isn't she your dream girl too?"
"Yeah! I love grabbing drinks with her."
"Come to think of it, I haven't seen her in a while. Parker, you're tight with her. Why don't you invite her out for a round?"
Parker didn't respond.
He was thinking to himself that he wasn't wrong. He hadn't misjudged her character.
