People who knew how to make money knew how to catch the right trends.
Maloney's professional focus had always been firmly rooted in his own tech firm.
Nora didn't interfere with Maloney's work, but she had studied business management with him for a while, so she understood basic market mechanics.
In recent years, the real estate and finance sectors had been struggling.
Nora didn't elaborate much, simply stating, "He majored in computer science."
"Ah, that makes sense." Leona didn't press the issue.
After finalizing the alterations for the silk gown, Nora and Leona locked in the shooting schedule and logistics.
They would also be running a live promotional stream that day.
Nora had to coordinate with various teams. As she was engulfed in the workload, her self-imposed limit on work hours ran out.
She went to negotiate with Maloney.
"I estimate I'll need to work sixty hours next week."
She expected to have to argue with Maloney for a bit, but he simply replied, "Deduct the extra time from the week after next."
Nora looked at Maloney, slightly surprised. "Why are you being so agreeable?"
Maloney kissed her. "Why are you being so obedient?"
Nora countered, "If I were truly disobedient, you'd just get mad."
Maloney gave a noncommittal response.
Nora began commuting to The National Silk Research Institute every single day.
She was busy, and he was busy too.
A few days later.
While Nora was with her team setting up the stage for the shoot, she unexpectedly received a call from Diana Dodge.
The two sisters hadn't spoken in almost a year.
"Diana," Nora greeted politely.
Diana's cold voice drifted through the receiver. "Our mother passed away."
Nora froze.
"Today was Bella Monroe's second trial. Vivian got into a car accident on the way to the courthouse. The other driver was in a heavy truck, speeding and running a red light in a restricted downtown zone. The impact was severe. She died on the spot."
When Diana delivered the news, her tone was entirely flat, as if she were reciting irrelevant facts.
"Nora, you need to come back."
